Jack Vs. Bob

I know that in every station there are differences which are customized to the market.

I have heard stations called Jack, Mike and Bob and I have found Bob-FM to be most entertaining in the comments made by "Bob" and the music played. I listen to Bob-FM Austin, but I have heard that Bob-FM in Norfolk is very similar to Austin.

On Jack the comments can get irritating and much of the music is not to my taste.

Who has the winning formula? Is it Bob or Jack or some other station somewhere else who does the format?

Charlie vs. Jack Vs. Bob

Entercom's "Charlie FM" in Portland is actually better than both (musically,
anyway). They're streaming-check 'em out. Not sure about their Boston Mike FM.

Not to mention, their commercial replacement comment guy will either crack you up or make you cringe. I couldn't stand it, but I got some other people to listen and they loved it. . .

As you know, local commercials are cut out of station streams. Charlie 97.1 replaces them with allegedly comic bits featuring this guy (not the normal liner voice) doing a schtick somewhere in the confluence of Stephen Wright, Christopher Walken as "The Continental", and J. Peterman from Seinfeld, only (IMO) lacking the charm of its influences.

The old TV themes they also use as filler are pretty awesome, though, including "Perry Mason" and a solo Eddie Albert version of the "Green Acres" theme. Of course, this being in Portland, they probably should just be spinning Me First and the Gimme Gimme's TV cover CD. :)

I just got back to NH from the Norfolk area last night and I really liked WPYA (93.7 Bob-FM) I live about an hour from Boston so I get WMKK (Mike) from Lawrence OTA (although they are also streaming - as most if not all of Entercom's stations are.) I have only listed to the Jack stations in Indy and Dallas online. I prefer the Jack and Bob formats over Mike in Boston. Can't speak for the other Entercom stations (Simon and the 2 Charlies) but Mike needs some improvement. They (Mike) have a new PD with experience in the Variety Hit format so hopefully some changes will be made.
 
From what I hear, Bob-FM in Norfolk is very similar to Bob here in Austin. And I think that it is one of the best variety stations around.

I've never heard the Austin station so I'll take your word for it. I really did like WPYA though. Does the Bob in Austin have jocks? Did Sinclair move WPYA from another signal in the Norfold area to 93.7?
 
Bob in Austin has jocks during drive-time. I would like an aircheck of Bob in Norfolk. But you said that you don't live there. If you have any, I can record a new aircheck or send an aircheck from the first twenty-four hours or the one month anniversary pf Bob.
