"Jack"--Why?

Why would Infinity put "Jack" on in LV? Is it because they were afraid someone else would? Let's see who's most vunerable. Oh, wait, it's Mix 94.1, Infinity's strongest station in Vegas! That makes sense. X107.5 is also somewhat vunerable, but they may change format when Howard leaves.

Other vunerable stations: Maybe KOMP, which does pretty well, maybe KKLZ, which isn't doing great. Star? Maybe, but why go after that small audience?

It will probably do better than Lite. And it gives them more adult men, which they can sell with KXNT. So they might come out ahead. But the Mix folks can't be happy.

I think it was good move...Yes, it will hit Mix a bit...but it will destroy Star and take audience from The Point & KKLZ mainly. Because the target demo is still 25-44 it should still keep Sunny in check. It will strenghten a station that has been anemic at best and allow Infinity to have a very powerful package to sell together in Mix and Jack. The log on their website is impressive...It's a decisive move as well...If Star had any intention of going the Jack direction they're screwed. This should do very well right out of the box...

Mix can be moved more Adult CHR. That's not a problem.

Star is screwed. Jack will play the 80s stuff that Star is playing to begin with and more.

Beasley should just flip 102.7 to either a CHR/Pop or a Rhythmic CHR like they do in Philly and Miami. Or go Classic Country. Don't bet on Star sticking around.<P ID="signature">______________

Are you kidding me? Mix is fine where they are...they already are considered an Adult Top 40 anyway...I see them possibly dropping some if not most of their 80's...especially as Star slowly fades.

STAR flipping CHR/Pop would be another death blow...You don't think a MIX/LUC concerted effort wouldn't absolutely crush a Mainstream CHR??? Then you suggest rhythmic???? It was only a few months ago, if you remember, that it was pretty much shown that the market can't support three rhythms...Classic Country...another crap format with minimal return...

STAR is a good moniker. It can be easily used as a Hot AC or even a soft AC...My feeling is they try to vacate the hole LITE has left...Unlike Infinity, Beasley actually spends money on marketing...Properly spent they might eek out a living against SUNNY. A soft AC still matches up demos with Beasley's other two dinosaurs. Having KKLZ & KJUL the LAST thing they would do is go CHR Pop or Rhythm. Might I suggest a double-format change at Beasley???? KKLZ go COUNTRY...Star go AC...

Regards and all respect to Beasley's airstaff...I just think your management has missed opportunity after opportunity...or they're happy with the revenue that comes with having a 3-share or less property.

Oooh, another possibility. However, I don't think Beasley would ever be so bold...How about that MEGA hispanic/hip hop thing...Don't they do that in Miami and LA??? That might do some damage.

First off, all of you are already conceding that JACK will be a success. I don't think that is a done deal. Not by a long shot. A lot depends on whether Infinity markets it. If the audience doesn't know it's there, why would they listen?

Yes, JACK certainly has the potential of severely hurting Star, but I think it is a bit premature to assume that JACK will be a winner. Here in Denver -- where the first US JACK debuted -- they are struggling big time. Their cume is OK, but their TSL is crap. And I can understand why. Just a few days ago they went from Faith Hill, Breathe. To M, Pop Musick. To Pink Floyd, Welcome To The Machine. That's just one example. If you have access to Mediabase 24/7, check it out and count the number of times you laugh and shake your head. And the JACK here has also done a ton of TV. Perhaps if the Infinity JACKs around the country are more focused and the segues are much less of the train wreck variety, then 2 years from now JACK will be a huge success story. I personally don't think it will. One of the obvious reasons stations are jumping on the bandwagon is cost. No DJs! Saves them big dough.

But I predict in about a year and a half, maybe two years, this 'flavor of the month' will have run its course.

Just my 74 cents worth. (It used to be 2 cents, but inflation...lol.)
