I had been anxcious <-hope I spelled that right - to hear the Jack format because it sounded like something that I'd enjoy. While I was on vacation I heard a station that had the Jack format and let me tell you, I wasn't a bit impressed. It sounds like a mess. I'm with you, I sure hope we don't get it here. I'd rather have Oldies (and that's a format that I've got burned out on.) But I'd take it over Jack anytime. I've noticed that in trends in other markets, Jack is starting to loose ground almost as fast as it got started.
I would like it if we could keep Oldies atleast on one of the frequencies because it's a good "safe" station to turn to when the whole family is in the car. For instance, you don't want Grandma hearing "Highway To Hell" or the kids hearing "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" on WIMZ. You can't really sing along and have fun to stuff on Star and Hot. WIVK makes me want to drink beer - not good. Oldies is different. Everyone knows the oldies songs and it's something everybody can have fun with and it would be bad to loose all those legendary songs - audio treasures of recent American history.
One more reason I don't want Jack is because it's a jockless format. There would be alot of good radio people out of a job over at Oldies if Jack comes in. Plus, if it's fading out in other markets as fast as it came in, anyone who picks it up will be in the same hole if not worse off than if they would have just kept Oldies.
But I can see the broascasting companies point of view too, they're competing against Ipods, satellite radio and stuff and have to stay alive and keep their stations profitable somehow.
