Hello Ya'll

Anybody notice the playlist on JACK? It's gotten a lot better since the new P/D took over from KJAQ in Sacramento.

wish they'd dig deeper into the playlist with like the 4th or 5th song on big albums from popular artists...like Prince's 1999....Journey Escape...Pearl Jam's first album.. If I want to hear one republic, I'll listen to 102.9. The Beatles? That's too far back. I'd think Jack would do better with stuff 1977-1992 or so, ya know?

I think they're doing fine now. It's a "Jack FM" station, lets have some variety, they can "play what they want". I wouldn't want to limit the format to 70s, 80s, and 90s I would rather for the format to play everything from 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and today's. I'm sure you can hear OneRepublic on Lite FM and Mix and I'm sure you can hear The Beatles on K-LUV, but lets have some variety, remember they can "play what they want".

I agree with you there

Congratulations, CBS! We know several CBS music formatted radio stations haven't been doing well lately including KVIL and KJKK in the DFW market, KHMX, KKHH, and KILT in the Houston market, and other CBS stations in other markets as well.

After I looked at KJKK playlist on yes.com today, I saw songs like Daryl Hall & John Oates' "Maneater", Pink's "Perfect", Abba's "Dancing Queen", Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold", Mike & The Mechanics' "All I Need Is A Miracle", Pat Benatar's "Shadows Of The Night", Genesis' "Land Of Confusion", Huey Lewis & The News' "The Heart Of Rock & Roll", Phil Collins' "I Don't Care Anymore", and more. It's pretty much different from what it sounded like at the time I was listening to it during the winter of 2010. That's a pretty sweet Jack FM playlist right there now. ;D

Now, CBS needs to find a new PD for KVIL. :p

Don't forget Alice In Chains's "Man In The Box"

Now they added Justin Timberlake this morning. I like what JACK is doing to their playlist. Making changes to it by adding more current Top 40.

Around 10AM in morning that day, JACK also played Lady Gaga's "Just Dance (f/ Colby O'Donis)". Around 11AM in the morning that day, JACK also played America's "Sister Golden Hair".

With KZPS pulling such good numbers after the switch to PPM, why would Jack want to abandon the old format and create this tune-out-after-every-other-song mix? America and Gaga don't fit together in any respect. It's the same old story of trying to please everybody and end up pleasing none. The TSL will crash. Aging soccer moms and little-league dads want to feel younger with music they heard when they were younger, instead of feeling disenfranchised with modern "hits" they don't "get" and wouldn't otherwise seek out on their own.

My suggestion: get rid of that TIRED, snarky, smart-ass imaging/voice, quit putting white-trash caller recordings on the air, and widen the playlist within the modern classic rock era (1976-95.) From what you all have told me about the playlist, I'm dropping the station from my presets. This cross-generational crap (along with the country crossover garbage) is what's hurting KVIL as well. Both are obviously cases of programming that's done by people who didn't "live" the era (or likely were even alive for it,) let alone live it in DFW.

Thank God for XM. Still well worth the monthly expense. Ya know, the bubble has already burst on the employee side of radio; how long until listeners say, "ENOUGH," and tune away to other resources for good? Wait until we all have internet connections in our cars. No amount of local severe weather coverage is going to prop up 70 stations in this market.

I like songs by both America and Lady Gaga, and know other folks who do, as well. So perhaps it's not a matter of trying to please everyone, but rather trying to serve an audience that wants to hear a wide range of music without constantly having to push buttons.

Will it work? I don't know...but I'm glad that they're giving it a shot.

But I thought Jack's format was Variety Hits. Not Classic Rock.

I think that what the JACK (Adult Hits) format should sound like. It should be variety hits ranging from softest to hardest music and oldest to newest music including the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and Today's. There shouldn't be anything wrong with playing America and Lady Gaga together. Btw, I thought KVIL should play America and Lady Gaga together. That would bring their numbers up.

Speaking of JACK, I think KVIL needs to do the same thing. They need to add more older music and more newer music to their playlist. They should add more 70s and 80s songs to their playlist (even though their Classic Hits sister KLUV is already playing them). They also should add more currents to their playlist in order to compete with Mix and KISS as well. An AC wouldn't be successful if they lacked older music. An AC wouldn't be successful either if they lacked currents. And, an AC wouldn't be successful at all if they lacked variety.

If KVIL doesn't want to play the 70s and 80s music that would overlap KLUV playlist, then they should consider playing the 80s and 90s music that isn't played on KLUV anyways like:

Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive
Bon Jovi - You Give Love A Bad Name
Journey - Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
Journey - Any Way You Want It
Whitesnake - Here I Go Again
Whitesnake - Is This Love
The Outfield - Your Love
The J. Geils Band - Centerfold
Gin Blossoms - Follow You Down
Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy
Gin Blossoms - Til' I Hear It From You
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge
Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
Survivor - The Search Is Over
Survivor - High On You
Huey Lewis And The News - Heart and Soul
Huey Lewis And The News - If This Is It
Huey Lewis And The News - Do You Believe In Love
Huey Lewis And The News - The Heart Of Rock & Roll
Huey Lewis And The News - But It's Alright
Phil Collins - Take Me Home
Phil Collins - One More Night
Phil Collins - True Colors
Phil Collins - A Groovy Kind Of Love
Phil Collins - Two Hearts
Chris De Burgh - The Lady In Red
Richard Marx - Hold On To The Nights
Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights
Richard Marx - Should've Known Better
Paul Young - Oh Girl
Paul Young - Everytime You Go Away
Breathe - Hands To Heaven
Mike & The Mechanics - The Living Years
Heart - These Dreams
Heart - Alone
Cher - Believe
Cher - If I Could Turn Back Time
Cher - I Found Someone
Madonna - Crazy For You
Madonna - Live To Tell
Whitney Houston - I Will Always Remember You
Whitney Houston - How Will I Know
Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
Whitney Houston - So Emotional
Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died In Your Arms
Berlin - Take My Breath Away
Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
Simply Red - If You Don't Me By Now
Simply Red - Holding Back The Years
Cheap Trick - The Flame
James Ingram - I Don't Have The Heart
Vanessa Williams - Save The Best For Last
Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me
Celine Dion - That's The Way It Is
Celine Dion - A New Day Has Come
Celine Dion - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
Celine Dion - Where Does My Heart Beat Now
Selena - Dreaming Of You
Selena - I Could Fall In Love
Enya - Only Time

To be honest, it's hard to find a station in DFW that play most of the songs I listed above except for the harder-edged songs I listed at the beginning of the list. KVIL could take advantage of the DFW market and boost their numbers by adding all the songs I listed above to their playlist and by adding more currents that Mix and KISS are playing now.

Seems like CBS found JACK a new and good PD, now KVIL needs a new and good PD as well.

In this fragmented age, there doesn't exist a station that connects current pop hits to the radio hits of the 1970s and 1980s. If JACK wants to break this ground, my hat's off.

But then again, KDGE attempts this on a daily basis with poor results on the "modern rock" side. Two-thirds of its playlist was "alternative" 20 years ago. Works fine with the AIC and Soundgarden crowd. But that's a different audience from the ones who want to hear Grouplove, Florence + The Machine and Sleigh Bells. God bless KXT, although my work precludes me from daypart listening.
