Jack's All 80's weekend....

Sitting here and enjoying Jack's All 80's Weekend. Good stuff.... I'm hearing songs I haven't heard in ages. Very few repeats like the normal junk that is normally played way too much with them. Here's an idea.. why not have this format ALL THE TIME....and not on special occasions like July 4th weekend? Just sayin'..... whoever is programming over there might have it right this time ;) 8) Keep up the good work. Us old radio dogs that actual appreciate good programming where you actually care about the songs, rather than just printing out the same old repetitive music logs (or loading the same junk into the hard drive) every day (and weekend) are sending a cold one your way....

They had it in Houston (106.9 the Point). It got REALLY old REALLY fast.

I scanned their playlists and it was full of stiffs I'd never even heard of. I'll give them credit for the effort though.

Robert, which songs did you not recognize? I scanned the playlist from the 5th and knew every song.

To name a few:

Foolin' - Def Leppard, Lonely Is The Night - Billy Squire, Run To You - Ryan Farish, Love Plus One - Haircut 100... I looked up the Haircut song in Billboard and it was a #37 song, which is basically a deep-cut stiff.

I just pulled it up on youtube. Not impressed! I would have scored it poorly on a music test...

Wow, Robert, I'm surprised you had never heard Foolin' or Lonely Is The Night. Those were both huge hits for Squier and Def Leppard. More on the rock than pop side, but still huge hits. And you got to remember to.... Speaking for myself as a teenager of the 80's that grew up with this stuff.... the Top 40 stations that I listened to had no problem playing Madona's "Holiday" and AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" all in the same music set. There was a time when stations played EVERYTHING, before the narrowcasting and all this audience tested BS came along. Personally I find no problem with an 80 popish/flashback station with some old AOR/Rock thrown in for good measure.... Of course I will listen to MJ's Thriller followed by Aldo Nova's Fantasy.... no problem for me whatsoever. That's how we used to listen to music..... many old timers still DO ;) 8)

That Squier song didn't even crack the Top 40, and it's not even on the Squier Greatest Hits CD I have. Imagine that...

Ahh well, to each his/her own. :) I still give JACK credit for the effort. ;)

JACK SAYS HEY ROBERT BASS, THANKS FOR LISTENING TO OUR 80's WEEKEND!

AND WE HAVE TO PLAY A FEW STIFFS ONCE AND A WHILE, OTHERWISE WE'D SOUND JUST LIKE LEGENDARY 80's!

ROFLMAO!!!! ;D

I'm sure JACK gets far more listeners than Legendary 80s does.

I'd have zero problems playing those two songs back-to-back! :)

Yes, we do appreciate your listening.:) I was a 15 year old girl in 1983 and I knew every song on Def Leppard's Pyromania album. I also knew and loved Billy Squier, Bryan Adams...pretty much all of it save Simply Red.;) The point of an all 80's weekend is the wow factor...the "OH MY GAWD!!!!" deal. I was listening to 80's on 8 one Friday night driving home from work when they were doing the "This Week back in blah blah blah Countdown"..and they played The Tubes "I Don't Want to Wait Anymore". I nearly lost my mind...had not heard it in years and FINALLY knew the name of the song I loved as a teen. I even knew the words....which really surprised me. I personally enjoy hearing the the songs I have not heard in forever...but that is just me. Something else I noticed with the 80's on 8 countdown...there were a bunch of songs I didn't know which told me that in my hometown...the Top 40 I listened to never added them. Ah, the good old days of regional/local programming.;)

JACK SAYS HEY RADIOGAGA, IN 1983 I WAS A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL TOO!

Seriously now, your post was very, very nice! :)

Hi Robert, I'm guessing you did not listen to "The Eagle" during that time frame. We pounded the heck out of those songs during our "Rock-40" period. Those songs got quite a bit of airplay on a number of rock-40 FM's in an effort to avoid the early Rap/Hip-Hop of that period of time. The primary difference musically between Y-95 and The Eagle was the amount of Rock-40 content...
