The12+ mainstream format race between NSR’s 4FMs and CC’s 3FMs gives NSR a slim 0.2% audience share advantage. NSR did not get much help from Jack or its Country station. . . some of their lowest numbers in a while. . . .from Winter, NSR down 2.7% overall. . . .CC down 1.4%.

BTW: Anyone know why Jackson is suddenly “embargoed?”

I'm pretty sure the embargo is in place for a reason, which is typically to keep the numbers out of the public and non-subscribers hands.

But thanks for sharing...

I would hardly call the last several months of embargo sudden.

In all fairness to NSR . . . their one book (3FM) decline was actually 1.2%, the 2.7% decline occurs when Jack is figured in the 4 FM trend.

12+ quarter hours don't mean much. 12+ cume can be interesting comparing radios unduplicated
weekly circulation to print...or illustrating that your weekly reach would sell out the Ms
Coliseum three times, etc. (25,500)
But, I don't know what you do with that kind of information these days. That kind of stuff used to be fun sales info...

It used to have some merit,Bob,to just be able to say "we're number one",but after years of people choosing to just count "general market" stations(in other words,"non-urban"),as if the other stations didn't matter,has gotten pretty old. We've got people in this market printing rankers that exclude the top three stations in major demos just to put their precious underperforming stations near the top. Oh, and love that "mainstream" qualification. It's true that ratings are just report cards,as a wise programmer once said. Let's look at all the subjects and not leave out the subjects we didn't look good in.

OK. "General Market" it is! But, if wer're going to eliminate the urban stations we need to disallow the related population. Jackson Metro is about 45% black. Take that out and your market size is just ahead of Tupelo...
about 210,000. But, that would still put the market in the top 200...barely.

I hate to be the one to break it to you... hip hop and r&b has been mainstream for a long time.

Man I surely do NOT miss those "monthly report cards"! The ratings were so mysterious at times..especially when WOAD would hammer TYX (1984) because 5 old black ladies would listen to WOAD all day long and write it in their diaries!

Five ladies? Have you forgotten that you're in Mississippi? Everyone listens to gospel music down here. And contrary to what you might think, it's not just African Americans who listen to HLH and the same for the hip hop and r&b outlets. Those formats (gospel only so much in the south) is a mainstream, mass appeal genre. Do you honestly think white kids and adults don't listen to music like that? Seriously?
