Jackson area translator sold to Jackson Radio

Hmm. So Calvary Chapel has appaerntly sold a translator to Rainey Jackson Radio. The translator's licensed for 19 watts from 295 feet in the Ridgeland area, with a CP to a Flowood site with 50 watts at 33 feet.

I don't get down to Jackson all that much, but I don't recall if this translator ever made it to air like Calvary's co-located W245AH on 96.9. Or maybe 99.3 was the one on and 96.9 off, I forget. No matter, I have to wonder what the plans are for this little FM outlet now that it's in secular hands. Will another area AM make the leap to FM… say perhaps, sports? ;)

And while we're on the subject, are there any other AMs in Mississippi with FM translators yet? I've heard of quite a few in Alabama, but none 'round here, other than WJNT's nighttime-only operation on 103.3.

96.9 in Ridgland recently started carrying "The Effect" a Christian rock format. For several weeks it had a problem and was running CSN and the Effect both at the same time. It is simulcast with 91.7 in Raymond. Both very tiny. According to their website a couple of months ago. 99.3 was supposed to simulcast with 90.7 also in Raymond (which for a time was "The effect") but they couldn't get a signal from 90.7 to feed the 99.3 transmitter since they weren't allowed to use a direct network feed. I wonder if they knew that 90.7 has been off the air for several years or is too week to pick up outside Raymond. I haven't been to Raymond lately but I haven't heard 90.7 in a long time. I don't think 90.7 is even on the air anymore.

In case anyone is interested Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon recently signed on a flea powered station at 104.3 with contemporary Christian music. It can be picked up mainly within Crossgates and downtown Brandon. Doesn't really get out much past the city limits.

I've also heard some black gospel on 104.3 when I was down around Star the other day. Not sure what it was but it may have been coming from Piney Woods, since they had an application for a LPFM a while back. Someone else may be able to confirm it.

Crossgate Baptist Church has had WSKM-LP on the air for a year now. They were using it to carry Brandon High School football this past season, among other things.

Piney Woods put WPWS-LP on the air around November or December... at least that's when I first heard it. They've had the license for a couple of years, but didn't actually go on the air until recently.
