I dont remember that, because i am 27, but ii heared alot of his arichecks, and he was on my myspace list. in fact I got this earlier

Extremely saddening news... I hoped I never had to write...

Our extremely amazing Dad and your friend Jack Armstrong aka John C.

Larsh passed away
yesterday March 22, 2008 at his home in North Carolina.

I wish there was a better way to get the word out but this
seems to be the fastest means of communication that he favored.

If you knew him at all, you would know that he wouldn't want you to be sad for a moment.

He would want you to remember
all the good times, what he gave to radio and to the world.

He would also want you to help fight to bring back the
personality in radio if at all possible. He loved being a DJ almost as much as he loved being a father and that says A LOT.

He put his blood, sweat and tears into both and never gave up what he believed in.

He was honest, brave and could tell a joke like no other!!
He was the best at everything he did and I know that he touched each and every one of us.

I dont know how he would sign off this letter, maybe it would be "Yoooooouuuuurrr LLLlleeeadaaa!" or just straight up "Jack it up"
either which way he would have done it better than anyone.

Please remember him in all that you do, pass on kindness, be true to yourself and
to those you love.

If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]

Very sad,

....Jack's middle daughter who loves him greatly - he was an exceptional person.

13Q was absolutely great with jackson armstrong and the station was NOT the same after he left....

when buzz bennet left a lot of the chutzpah left the station......and if i recall it was at that time jacckson left the building..

but i must say.......when i first heard jack armstrong on kdka, filling in as a talk host, i was floored....he did a great job and showed just how versatile he was.......

it appears he fell at his town house in winston salem SC........too bad indeed...

Lots of links for Jack airchecks, plus Youtube vids, on the Cleveland and Raleigh/Greensboro boards.

Jack's last gig was doing am drive for Entercom oldies WMQX/Oldies 93.1 Greensboro/Winston-Salem NC, now country "The Wolf". I believe Jack was let go in 2004.

Big Apple Airchecks will be posting an audio tribute on Friday.

Somewhere deep in my big pile of tape is an aircheck of Jack's from 13Q where in the space of a 13 second intro does a legal ID, weather and a contest open. To this day I don't know how a human can do that fast and make every word understandable. Those of us who grew up around here and were bitten by the radio bug when we were teenagers have Jack to thank.

I read that Jack had fallen down the stairs in his home.

My dad told me that he used to listen to Jack on 13Q with his pocket AM transistor when he was a teen. My dad has a lot of cassette recordings he made back then. I have listened to a lot of airchecks of Jack and many of his fellow DJ's who were at 13Q. I must say, it sure sounded like an exciting time to be in radio. So much talent, imagination & originality. I know Jack was working on a book about his life as a DJ. Does anyone know if it's available or will be? Jack had portions of it posted on his Myspace site. I really enjoyed reading about his days at 13Q and how he got cornered into setting a record for riding the Thunderbolt at Kennywood.

I was really sad to hear about Jack's passing. My dad took a fall down the basement steps when he was 22. The heel of his boot got snagged on the carpeting and he went down head first. He broke his wrist and got a few bumps and bruises. It can happen more eaily than one may think.

In any event, Radio has lost a true legend, gentleman and dear friend.

I left pittsburgh before 13Q. Is this the same Jack Armstrong that was on WEEP 1080 in the late Fifties. They had Perry Marshall, Tony Graham, and a Jack Armstrong on till sign-off at sundown.

Thanks

For all of the Jackson Armstrong fans out there, we will be paying tribute to him tonight on The Radio Racket.

We interviewed Jack a few months back and it was a great chat with a legend! We'll be replaying parts of the interview, as well as other airchecks, beginning at 9pm tonight. Our live show starts at 10pm and we'll be talking to former colleagues and friends of Jack's, including legendary programmer John Rook and nationally syndicated talker Rollye James.

You can link to the show at our website at www.radioracket.com!

Hope to see you all later tonight!
