Jackson... got yer ears on?

I was driving over and back to J-city last Saturday night, listening to the syndicated oldies show on 103.1. I noticed half of some songs missing... like the organ (calliope) on "Red Rubber Ball"*, and the vocals on some tunes. What was happening, was they were running the right channel of audio in both right and left channels (stereo pilot was still on). Or vice-versa (left in both). It was fairly irritating.

Anyway, I didn't know if this was standard procedure, or just a one-shot case of bad patching. I can't usually get much out of 103.1, due to killer hiss from 103's digital shroud.

Any observations?

* I am aware that there was actually a version released without the organ/calliope, but I called the 888 number and talked to the guy doing the show, and he said he ran the calliopeed one.

A station I once worked for played an "instrumental" version of the Beatles' "Twist and Shout." But since I heard it on the station's internal monitor, rather than over the air, I have no idea if it actually went over the air that way or not.

My own computer may actually be that way now. I have stereo speakers connected to only one plug (the speaker cord splits). But on the computer I have now, there are two jacks! The computer repair guy was here the other night to get me set up on this computer, and while he was here, he instructed me on which jack to plug my dual speakers into.

It did it again last night... same station, same show. They played San Franciscan Nights by Eric Burdon and the Animals, and in the instrumental breaks where the mandolin-ish picking should be, all you heard was bass and drums. Who runs that station (103.1)? I noticed they run it seemingly unsold, while 102.3 in Wynne has the local avails filled in the same program. Perhaps if one could hear both channels of the songs, people might listen, and spots might be sold... Radical thought, I know.

Could be a mono feed of left or right out of the sat receiver or a phasing issue. I'll give Gerry a call tomorrow.

Thanks Watt! What I'm hearing sounds more like a feed thing rather than a phase thing. You know I'm not dissin'; just trying to get it fixed.

Close, this is the co-located FM station. Went over there last week-end to See Gerry. Discovered defective Starguide audio output card, they are going to order replacement.
