Jackson Memorial Service - Tearful Ending

I was just talking to my grandmother about the procession and what not and I was telling her that there will never be anyone like Michael and being as I am of cuban descent, I think there will never be anyone like Celia Cruz either, yes, they both lived different lives as Michael was always involved in a scandal, whereas, Celia was never in any, they both were huge stars in their genres. I was not alive to see the procession for Elvis Presley, but I can honestly today's events could have possibly surpassed Elvis' procession, I think, of this generation.

I don't know how old you are, but I just want to say that Michael lived at least half his life without scandal (merely eccentric at that point but certainly not scandalous). It was only in the 2nd half of his life that all of the scandal started.

And his brother Marlon: "Maybe they'll leave you alone now":

This is quite a statement considering the one thing Michael was good at was attracting attention. He certainly could have lived outside the limelight had he wanted to.

I am 26. Yeah I know he did, I am just not that young to remember them :p

I recall how much a health nut Michael used to be- even going to extremes like wearing masks in public & I think he even stayed in a plastic oxygen bubble for awhile :D. You'd think as much exercise he got dancing & working out he would've been built up a little more & not so frail-but then again who knows what he was taking.
They never should have paraded that poor 11 year old girl at the funeral. I'm surprised Joseph wasn't up there with an onion to make her cry more for the camera. VERY sickening & tasteless to me. MJ would've wanted those kids far away from the public eye. I remember hearing about the riot at Flo Ballard's funeral in 1976 after her decline after being axed from the Supremes- glad nothing like that happened at Michael's.

Perhaps she wanted to say something about her dad? Do any of us know that? Who knows that she was "paraded" out there?

Although I doubt that an 11-yo would want to speak in front of such a large audience, I'll grant you the point. It's not so much that the little girl spoke and cried - that's to be expected; I had a hard enough time with the death of a parent at the age of 41, let alone at 11 - but the way the news played it over and over and over and over that day, that's what got to me. The whole affair just reeked of exploitation. Just my opinion.

I didn't see the whole she-bang (Thank God for that!!!) but I feel like the funeral was pretty much staged and exploited from Brooke Shields' acting job at giving an eulogy to the $50,000 coffin and no one was really in it and that the body was at the masoleum of Berry Gordy to Marlon Jackson saying that "Hopefully they'll leave you alone now, Michael" which they won't unfortunately, not when the parentage of the 3 kids is being feared that they are Michael's after all but that of his dermatologist and Debbie Rowe and Joe Jackson thinking that Michael's death was foul play. Hogwash!!! Jackson took bundles of drugs from Xanax and everything under the sun. What will Joe Jackson do when it is revealed that Michael died from a drug overdose? Joe Jackson is a very mean, angry and selfish person who abused his kids and Katherine Jackson stood by and let it happen and never divorced the low-life scum of the earth.

The soap opera is far from over.

This is what we get when sports nuts try discussing things other than sports. ::) The coffin was $20,000 btw.

I was agreeing with you that the whole funeral was staged so don't take the ::) approach at me. And what does me being a sports nut have to do with it anyways? No need to be personal about it.

And why was Diana Ross a no-show at the funeral?

I couldn't muster the strength to speak at a parent's memorial service as an adult, so I applaud her for having the courage. And while I have no time for MJ and blasted the media for its obsession, when I saw the clip replayed (I didn't watch the service live or in full on a replay), I did choke up at that point because I understand her pain (it doesn't change my opinion of her father, but that's irrelevant; a child lost the one parent she knew and that is sad). I honestly don't know how many times it got replayed, as I watched only limited news around that time to avoid overload.

The whole level of media attention was over the top for me; quite frankly, that little girl's (and to be fair, his family's as a whole) mourning the loss of a loved one was the only 'real' thing there's been. The other hangers on and fame-seekers have been sickening.

No need to attack me personally just because I have an opinion like everyone else here and I didn't call you names so why the need to attack and call me names like "sports nuts" and the ::) attitude. I agreed with you that the funeral was staged besides that why the need to televise it on 18 or more!! networks when they didn't even televise the funerals of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin (better singers than Jackson) not to mention Elvis Presley and John Lennon (also better singers than Jackson) among many many others.

And I heard it on the news that the coffin was $50,000.

Have a nice day!! 8)

wow...that's a lot of anger over a televised funeral. Jackson is "a very mean angry selfish person"? Did you get this insight by growing up with the Jacksons? Or is it something you heard on some radio talk show?
As long as we don't really know the truth, it's really not up to us to judge. Yes, Micheal jackson took drugs. He also was a record giver to charity. None of us are perfect.
BYW, I thought the funeral was quite good myself. I watched on ABC...Martin Bashir added a lot of insight and Charlie Gibson did very well too.
