Hey all -

Nothing has been posted here for awhile, so I thought I would get a discussion going.

I am *contemplating* placing a new format on a translator on 96.9 FM in Jackson. It will be a big investment, so the choice is not to be made lightly. I am taking (serious) suggestions. It should be commercially viable in a limited power scenario (250 Watts / 200 meters antenna height above average terrain). Your thoughts?

Do you plan to use your existing FM station to feed it using an HD-2 subchannel? Or simulcast off of an AM station? speaking of translators. 970 AM is still off the air since earlier this year but the translator 99.1 is still broadcasting. Which I believe is illegal unless they have permission. I'm curious as to what happen to 970AM. It it broke down or is it just a lazy or cheap operator who refuses to turn it on? 970 actually gets out better than 99.1 in most areas. 99.1 is nearly inaudible in Brandon.
 
Not sure of which method or if it will happen. I think we already have 4+ talk stations, 3 sports stations, et cetera. As far as 99.1, the rules are quite clear that they need to turn off the translator whenever the AM station is offline.

Here are a few ideas for stations we don't currently have. Of course none of these will make money or ratings or else we'd already have them. Album Oriented Rock,
Adult Album Alternative, Americana/Alternative Country, Traditional Blues (not southern soul. 90.1 and 100.5 has that covered) Nostalgia/Adult Standards, Easy Listening, Classical, Metal/New Rock, Alternative Rock. Southern Gospel or a Traditional Christian music station that doesn't sound like K-Love. Or since the signal is in Jackson, maybe Classic Soul or Old Skool.
 
Westwood 1's Classic Hip Hop. It is pulling decent numbers in several larger/medium markets on stations with smaller signals (class A or translators).
 
How about AC gold or MOR? Focusing on the 70s/early 80s. There is no good AC station in Jackson.
 
The domographics will not support a Gold AC or MOR station.
