And WZJZ Ft. Myers MOVING (not, not the format) from 107.1 to 100.1 on March 21, the first day of spring. Will Smooth Jazz go with it? A new format to BLOOM? What's going on with Smooth Jazz in Florida! BA over Jones. It's GOT to be cheaper, or they're buying in to the musician-as-air-talent craze lock, stock and barrel.

Kinda wondering what happened to the original post. SJNetwork is available as a barter, you just run the net spots. I think Jones does the same thing. It wasn't a matter of cost, I think it was a matter of them being w. Jones for 4 years and not getting good numbers, but they were only running Jones between 10a-2p. they were live except for middays and overnights. So why not find a new source of canned programming that's cheap and can take a few jocks off the payroll.

Actually the station doesn't sound any different except during middays...they were already playing a lot of pop vocals in the locally programmed dayparts.

One interesting thing: The station has gone back to using a local person from 9pm to midnight. Na'im Rashid, who had the 7-12 shift before and plays a fair amount of straightahead jazz and lots of real old stuff like Donald Byrd, Norman Connors, Roy Ayers etc. He did well with extremely upper demo males but not well at all across the board...(can't quote numbers but we'll just say he was in the very bottom of the pack)

On the other hand it is almost refreshing to hear him because he backannounces all his songs and gets in and out of his talk breaks really quickly. One thing I've noticed about the BA jocks is that they tend to ramble a long time about really inane things. Yesterday Koz talked for at least 45 seconds about the fact that it was Thursday and Friday was coming up.

Ratings sliding since network launch

Go to this link and scroll down. Waaaaay down. The first book with BA network is the last month of Winter 07.

Old music, out of town DJs whose scripts consist of long strings of cliched plesantries and an occasional verbatim read from an artist bio, and an overall B/EZ vibe just don't work in a young, casual market. The previous group of air personalities on this station sounded old-timey and boring but at least they were local, and with middays being Jones they played more than one real SJ song an hour.

I'd love to see Kepler "spin" this one. The "lack of promotion" default doesn't work here because this station never promoted but it had significantly better numbers when it was with Jones in '04 before Jones Lite-ened up their playlist.
