Yes, it looks like Classic Rock 94.1 WSOS is trending in the wrong direction, suffering listener erosion, even in the cume numbers. And, yes, I agree their signal is problematic, no matter what the format. Originally, 94.1 WSOS started out on a tower near their studios, just off SR16, with about 19,000 watts erp at just over 300 ft. They had a very good signal for St. Augustine and vicinity, and the nearby beaches. But, around 2005, the company that sold the facility to Renda, I'm guessing as part of the deal, moved the transmitter farther north, near the World Golf Village, on a shorter tower, in order to get the full C3 power up to 25,000 watts, and the signal closer to Jax. The signal was still good in St. Augustine proper, but, from what I remember, not as good at St. Augustine Beach, etc. The city of license was then changed to Fruit Cove, as Renda intended to make this a Jacksonville move-in. They are now on the old 92.7 tower in Fruit Cove with 5,500 watts erp at about 500 ft, and a bit short spaced to 94.1 in Savannah. They've got more Jacksonville coverage, at the expense of losing St. Augustine, and in actuality, with the lower power, the signal seems to only be really effective in areas of Mandarin, Julington Creek, and on the opposite side of the St. Johns, around Orange Park, Doctor's Inlet, and Fleming Island. And, as Mark has already pointed out, the WSOS 5.5kw signal is no match for 100kw WFYV, especially in a city the size of Jacksonville. Unless, Renda can somehow boost the signal, it would seem a totally unique format, and I'm not sure what it would be, would be more advantageous for 94.1 WSOS.
