Station notes based on 12+ rank

WQIK - Top station in both morning and afternoon drive 12+, number 2 25-54 in the morning and number 1 25-54 in the afternoon. Also wins top spot for most overall listeners.

-----

Less than one share separates the next five stations:

WJBT - Big numbers in June and just barely takes second place. Doug Banks is #2 in the morning 18-34. At night, The Beat goes over a 20 share again 18-34.

WOKV - June numbers off from levels in April and May. Limbaugh and Hannity carrying the morning show and Boortz. The station's up nicely over winter.

WSOL - V-101.5's numbers are sliding, have been since January. Tom Joyner's now #3 in the morning 25-54.

WPLA - Had a coulpe of off months in April and May, but turned in a solid June. Lex n Terry are #2 overall, #1 18-34 and #1 25-54. This is the station to watch in the next book.

WAPE - Very consistent performer the last six months. Ratings are up over the last book.

-----

WEJZ - What's wrong with Lite? #10 in the morning 24-54? The at work station's #12 25-54 between 10am-3pm.

WGNE - Damn good numbers in April and May, but off in June. That's what kept the Gator from finishing ahead of Lite. Who working at Renda would have guessed that?

WJGL - The same old songs ain't what they used to be. Listening is off about 25 percent since January.

WFKS - Looked like KISS was heading in the right direction in the winter. Spring was just so-so under the new boss.

-----

WBGB - Promise gets a nice bounce in June after a disappointing May. Doesn't matter. Probably one more book before Cox takes over.

WFYV - Deciding to part ways with Lex n Terry really paid off! In the Summer of 2005, Rock 105 was #6 overall. Now it's #12 and dropping.

WMXQ - Just when it looks like the Point's heading up the ladder, they get clobbered with a bad month. This time its was May.

WZAZ - Gospel on the AM keeps right on clicking.

-----

The not a factor list...

WROO - Listening up a tiny bit since winter. Casey Carter and Trane out in budget cuts. New morning show, Dee moves to middays and Shotgun to mornings. Rooster should be a memory by next year.

WJSJ - Smooth Jazz on two rough signals.

WKQL - Oldies, or something like that. Pathetic.

WGCL - Some kind of religious AM.

WFXJ - Sports.

WZNZ - More sports.

WSOS - Sunny 94.1. THE FASTEST GROWING RADIO STATION ON THE FIRST COAST. That's what they are actually saying.

WHJX - Urban CHR.

WJGR - Ultra-conservative talk's a big winner.

WBWL - Radio friggin Disney.

Shotgun's moving to afternoons.

I am really shocked at the most recent ratings. Then again I am suprised as well.

First I know that WQIK would hold #1 again but I expect it to be in a couple books for them to slide down to 2 or 3. Urban and Urban AC in refering to WJBT and WSOL, they always seem to do good and it will not stop so I expect them to remain a top 5. WPLA will do well even if they are not totally top 5 like they have been for the past couple of books. Don't look for them to drop dead anytime soon.

Now with everything going the way it is I am seeing something and this may be weird but here we go.

WROO-Rooster Country 93.3---by Jan 1. How about Spanish "Rumba 93.3" or even a Jack format. Heck they could beat Cox to the punch and launch an FM News Talker
WBGB
WMXQ
WFYV
---Well those three could go anywhere i would think that Rock 105 could go either dance, active rock, AC or something if an improvement does not happen. WMXQ could just go about the same way even with WBGB. Also could suppose that one may ended up a FM news talker.

Now here is the weird part. How about Renda moving Gator Country to 96.1 and moving Lite to 99.9. Oh I know that would make everyone go crazy, but you think Gator is doing so well for just being here one year now rated in #8 in the 12 plus after just one year, considering they were like #20 or something just a year ago (Which they get the most improved award for any station that battle and fought there way up). and with Lite falling that maybe you give the station does so well the 100kw stick. Heck it is just a thought that could happen but I would expect it not as well.

Later.

They will not move Gator to 96.1. NEVER EVER.

Looks like Gator picked up men numbers.

Where is Oldies Cat when I need him to eat some crow!

Renda will not let Gator beat WEJZ...WEJZ is the money maker for the Jax market, EJZ has much more earning potential than Gator. Gator will always be second to WQIK and only get the left overs. Look for WEJZ to pull the promo dollars from Gator and sink it all on EJZ...What do you think?

Well looks at it first....Gator is def doing heck of a lot better when it comes to ratings then WQIK...by what I mean is that Gator is going up each book while WQIK has been sliding. I will give it about two to three more books before we start talking about a Gator/WQIK on air battle....I am ready to see a battle.....because who will win? Gator......

Does anyone know how Dallas and Dixie did in morning time? I saw in the earlier post that WQIK had number one for mornings......but I would not expect it to last much longer.....why? The way Boomer and Robbie talk on air...it is basically trash...and Toni gets caught in the middle of it.......at least when I listen to Dallas and Dixie they are more geared for the family....maybe that is why numbers are going up......watch it if Rooster falls dead by Jan 1....Gator could pickup a major windfall.......WQIK cannot take all of the syndication stuff otherwise they will over load themeselves to the point of bursting..........Heck they could push CT 40 with Bob Kingsley off or The American Country Countdown off....because they will keep the Foxworthy countdown because that means they dont have to pay syndication fees (at least I think but someone correct me if I am wrong). That could also mean NASCAR will be up for grabs and if Gators is gearing more for men what could happen and not to mention how much other stuff that Gator could snatch up.....also what about After-Midnight.....Gator could very well fight for that because I know the Gator in Ft. Meyers has it, but then again WQIK may just keep that...and if that becomes the case the overnight DJ will be without a job....but that could mean Gator could pick him up for night DJ.

Anyways is Gator going to get a night jock for 7p to 12a.....That would be sweet but I can understand that the budget has it effects....but anyways.....

That swap idea was just an idea........you just never know what can happen.....jeeze if I recall several years ago about six stations in Cleveland either swaped formats or changed formats compeletly.....I am expecting a smiliar thing to happen here before too long.

Well anyways....Later on everyone.

I have it on authority that Gator's night jock will be Commander Kyle Bickley, Sr.

But if we're talking ex-QIK talent, I think it would be fun to hear Buck Bridges back on the air.

Guys, I really have nothing constructive to add to this thread, other than being shocked at how quickly Gator has come into its own. Let's hope Kool and Sunny get a push of some sort in the next year.

The numbers can't be more clear. The stations with focus and format-appeal are doing well. Why virtually little happens in the Jax market to seize opportunity or take advantage of weakened competition just continues to amaze me. With so much emphasis on that bottom line, one would think there would be a greater sense of urgency to be more competitive and fill in obvious format gaps in the market.

Look, it was about a year ago when I wrote under JohnRadioFan that I voiced concerns about WEJZ and the reasons I thought (from just a listener perspective) that they were headed for harder times. It turns out I was 100% correct. I always thought this market could use another form of AC and if someone had made that move, it's entirely possible that that station could have come out ahead of the long-established WEJZ by now. For a station that has virtually no competition and a format that is winner everywhere else proves their audience is plain and simple not satisfed and are going elsewhere.

When we heard in another string that the former Renda GM was set up to fail, all I can do is scratch my head and say why would anyone jeopardize their cluster to do that sort of thing. From a business perspective, it makes no sense.

What also doesn't make sense is that entire WKQL nightmare. Again, no sense of urgency and apparently no desire to win but if I were the owner I would have at least hired someone who had success with the format. In my opinion, the right PD could have been more effective than waiting for some consultant to come in a couple of years later after your numbers go into the toilet. And so even if there were zero promotional dollars, getting the programming right would have been a significant first step that I know in my heart would have positioned them better.

As far as Gator, I think it proves that the country format has a following in Jax. I still don't believe we need 3 stations doing it but for now, so it goes.

No one should take listeners for granted. Success is truly earned.

They are working on fixing EJZ now but for the time being Gator is the big dog. Gator can price better than QIK and take money off the board

As for WEJZ, I have noticed this is a nationwide trend. In several markets AC stations are tanking. Several ACs across the country hit their lowest numbers ever.

Tanking is a strong word. I don't know where you are drawing your conclusions but today's AC is in many forms and while every format has occasional ups and downs, I don't see the format is in trouble. The format remains strong in ad revenue potential with it's core audience female 25-54.

WEJZ is another matter. I'd get into specifics but why bother. This board surely isn't what it used to be and few seem interested in participating to make for a good discussion.
