Jacksonville Trend

Looks like a trifecta up there for Clear Channel. They, however, can't be happy with those WPLA numbers. It appears that they peaked and settled down not looking much better than the pre Lex and Terry days. WKQL beat WMXQ in their last Oldies Trend.

John Jax, I enjoy your posts on the Miami board!

'Cane

Thanks, 'Cane - appreciate it but no matter where I go, I just try to call 'em as I see 'em.

Rock 105, once the King of the Hill, has been in steady decline. A diary or two more mention for WKQL could have seen them beat Rock 105 in total audience. Tastes change and markets change. Will Rock 105 ever be as dominant as they once were? It seems not likely. But I always love seeing best efforts put forth.

WMXQ should remain flat, unless the format is overhauled. What they are waiting for, I don't understand.

Country does well here and it will continue to do so in 2007. Lovers of the format stick with them. And the same can be said for oldies.

Speaking of - Over at KQL, they were finally getting the message many of us were preaching for some time - tighten the playlist. Their last couple of months before flipping were their best yet. And it was proving that listeners were discovering them and finally liking what they were hearing. There is a market for oldies. I'm still hoping we get a form of oldies in Jax in 2007.

But after all is said and done, I think the biggest winner for the next trend and book will be AC WEJZ. They have established themselves well as Jacksonville's Christmas station. And they seem to have that spark back. Their delivery has been snappier and damn - even those afternoon traffic reports seem to be moving at a quicker pace. Hmmm, do you think someone actually listens to me? Sorry, just had to stroke some ego...LOL. They could easily earn 7 shares at least - if the momentum stays.

And "Cane, I am S Fla bound for the holidays- see you on the beach at Christmas!

Happy Holidays All!

John,

I also enjoy reading your posts over on the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale board. I actually wish that you would post more over there. It's been rather quiet there, and I can't do all of the work ! ;D

I meant to apologize to you for failing on your request for me to listen to and analyze 'APE' & 'KISS'. I got stuck on the various (weak-signaled) Christian radio stations that you have up there before I discovered the wonderful 'MOVIN'-100.7' via my Mom. She's a big fan of it while driving in her car. Believe it or not that's actually not so shocking (even if she is 61), for she's always been on the cutting edge of contemporary hit music. She was a TOP 40 fanatic during much of her 30s and 40s, and then as she got older into her 50s she segued over to alternative and hard rock ! Now she's 'MOVIN' in her 60s, and I liked what I heard as well. Did you see my post on it from earlier this week ? ???

While driving southeastward away from the Jacksonville area after the Thanksgiving holiday I lost the 'MOVIN' signal rather quickly (since it is up there buried in extreme southeastern Georgia), so I managed to catch a little bit of 'APE' & 'KISS' before I switched over to 103.3-WVYB out of Daytona Beach (a cool CHR station that mixes in some unique alternative and British rock). 'APE' is still rock-leaning TOP 40 and 'KISS' is still urban-leaning TOP 40, so there are no notable changes there. They are both gettin' it done with their respective brands of TOP 40 flavoured hit music.

THE MAJOR [WEBTRACKING IN JAX]

Major, thanks for the thumbs up, but I don't post when the subject doesn't interest me or if I feel my knowledge/understanding of what is being discussed is limited.

For Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, even though I spent half my life there, unless the subject concerns WMXJ or talent I'm familiar with from the past, then I think it's best to be silent. But as I've said many times, the Miami board holds the most interest for me. And mainly that comes from the people who have a lot of respect for each other - even when opinions differ. You don't find that in a lot of boards. Notice my politically correct silence regarding the Jax Board.

And Major, I'm not shocked about your Mom and her like for Movin'. With your 1000 posts just about Y-100 ;D It's pretty obvious that even though you don't fit the demo for CHR
I figured you would say what you did about APE VS Kiss. And yeah, I saw your post from earlier in the week. But the Movin' stuff would be one of those subjects that I have no interest in.

If there is anything interesting about Movin 100.7, it's that it was a very risky move (pardon the expression) as the format doesn't really have a long established track record. For a market the size of Jax, it was just a litte surprising it was done.

But your vote of confidence at least says they launched the format well enough.

Major, Webtrack in Jax whenever you like!
