Jacksonville's new rock station

Since Planet was blown up for a format not needed here, I am wondering which company would use this opportunity to go after those loyal Planet listeners abandoned by Clear Channel, The same listeners who are not Arbitron raters? 94.1 Sunny looks like a nice replacement, they would at least double the ratings lol. It is my personal opinion that Aaron over at COX probably could not handle his own medicine and WXXJ can be brought down by a company that cares like ........ what do y'all think?

Planet's ratings were very low and this is why Planet was replaced with classic hits Magic 107.3 in an effort to target the adult 25-54 demo. Normally in a market the size of Jacksonville, there is room for only one alternative rock/AAA formatted station, and WXXJ just did a better job with it than Planet; Hence, the reason for the format change. If you believe Jacksonville can support a second alternative rock FM, how would you format, position, image, market and present the station in a way to counter WXXJ and win in the ratings and revenue war?

I would tap that market that was unrated and bring the New Rock that this market has missed....MUDVAYNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, SHINEDOWN, SICK PUPPIES, Godsmack and etc. WXXJ did not and could not handle that simple request. I hope the owners of the new rock station knows what the Jax area needs and wants. 94.1 Jacksonville's new rock station, I like that, hmmmm waiting LOL

Who are your advertisers who will part with dollar bills each month to sponsor your proposed station? Projected monthly billing? Age demo?

That music is the lowest-billing format out there these days.

Plus 94.1 is a C3 station with Class A power at 5,500 watts after being 25,000 all those years. 94.1 is better situated to go to a news-talk format at some point and butt heads with WOKV. Actually I believe a few years ago on this board it was mentioned after Renda had bought the station that they had wanted to take it to a news-talk format, but just could not get the key players to bring it alive.

Jax, overall will not be able to handle another Active/New Rock station. You can't have 2 100,000 watt blow torches covering the market like that with the same format and have one pulling a 6 share and one pulling a 2.5 (which Planet did do at one point). Country music and Top 40 are about the only two formats I can say off hand that can do well on 2 signals in most markets.

For the people who keep complaining out there about how we don't need another "old farts" station should lay off. First Jacksonville has been underserved or not served at all with the songs Magic is playing. There might be some crossover with stuff that the Eagle and Lite play, but overall each station is very differently formated. Magic is a mix blend of the Classic Hits format while the Eagle is more basically than not a Classic Rocker minus the hard rock tunes that Rock 105 will play as Classic Rock.

Seems you may have underestimated Aaron, especially if you check out 104.5FM, though the so-called professionals who posted after you who stated why this would never happen, failed to note that a station playing the artists you mentioned have constantly been in the Top 3 Person 25-54 (and often #1) in the similar Tampa market, so don't feel too bad.

JPM --- Your first three posts on RI --- you made your request. you were heard. instant results on your radio station. That has to be a first in American radio.

Hey JPM: I want something like Big 106.5 back. Name it and claim it! haha

But honestly, I too was wondering if any station (X included) would tweak/flip in the coming months or years to include all the good music 107.3 left on the table.

So, who has ideas on what may happen with classic rock (NOT "Tiny Dancer," "Piano Man," etc.) on Jacksonville radio, if anything?

Re: Jacksonville's new rock station / 02.7

I never understood why Rock 105 didn't include more 'normal' classic rock since their ratings (at least 12 plus) always sucked with their limited playlist. I swear when I occasionally would tune in I'd hear AC/DC first or second 75 % of the time.

Also what's up with 92.7? I tuned in when I was in Jax a couple of months ago and it sounded like Urban AC but they weren't simulcasting 101.5. I know they've never shown up in the ratings since they moved the Beat to 93.3. A new home for Lex and Terry and 'normal' classic rock?

Years ago, before cable TV and the wheel Renda’s consultant and friend told Tony he needed to protect WEJZ. 94.1 FM was born to prevent a competitor from coming into the market with another AC.

Renda Broadcasting is a hack, a wannabe and so 94.1 as we know it is dead in the water, really doing nothing other than just running up the electric bill and wasting natural resources. As for Newstalk, this is an expensive format. You have to understand Renda Broadcasting killed off Amadeus from Gator Country, to save money! Don't hold your breath for any forward thinking from Renda Broadcasting. I mean, give me a break Renda doesn’t even stream on the web anymore.

They run twice as hard to stay in the same place.
