Jacksonville's smooth jazz combo is the next to go :(

I found this on Radio and Records about Jacksonville's smooth jazz simulcast being split up. Sports programming from WJXL (AM 1010) will be heard on the Jacksonville 105.3 frequency. The St. Augustine signal at 105.5 will be oldies. I was surprised because I thought the smooth jazz combo in Jacksonville was already gone. I heard it a few years back when I was visiting there in Jacksonville. I really did like it then, have no idea what it sounds like now. Anyhow, here's the link to the R&R story:

1010XL moves to FM in Jacksonville

Jacksonville's smooth jazz combo flipped formats on Good Friday, actually. They had been running a really awful sounding "Rhythmic A/C" the music had no focus, their sweeper voice guy sounded like he was 100 years old, and there is a heritage Urban A/C that they could never compete with. The SJ station was Jones, then when jones got more upper-demo focused and added more pop oldies the ratings started dropping, they brought in Bob Baldwin who did freeform college radio on PM drive (eek) which sent the owners (who swore they would never do such a thing) running to BA, which played a lot of songs that are older than the average age in the market (35)

XL is an awesome sports talk station. It's actually the only radio besides NPR that I listen to. Going into football season this is a good move. I never listened to oldies, just don't like 'em...if I did I would have listened to BA smooth jazz...
