Jacobs Bleeped

Monday morning (coming up on 6:19), right after Deputy Dan's
sub on KT'R confirmed the wreck of the day on I-10 inbound from
the 'Tuke, I tuned over to 55/FYI to see if Jacobs would shut up
and toss it to the Traffic Twins in hopes of hearing more on the
virtual parking lot which I-10 had become.

Our fave lunatic morning yakker was going off on some rant against
the editor-of-the-month at the Arizona Socialist Republic, and he
must have said something real inappropriate as he was bleeped by
the producer and/or board op--twice by my count.

He then threw it to break and I kind of wished there would have been
a live read spot, to see how much more he'd butcher it following his rant,
but it wasn't. No dog food testimonial today. :(

Then there's Jacobs' favorite word--"uhhhhhhhhhhhh." Listen to five
minutes of a talk segment any day and count how many times he says
it. He may even beat out Bill Withers. ;D

No dog food testimonial? With Dead Simons departure from KT'R, I have relied on Jacobs for the pet food testimonial. And he didn't even give one?!?!?!?

Oh, the humanity!!! Please, if anyone has pictures of Sven and Rabbit, please send them to me. I am going through Purina withdrawls!!!

Remember the first week of his show, when he was a moderate?

Everyone yelled at him and all of a sudden, he is an ultra conservative!

When will people realize that talk radio is just as legit as Professional Wrestling?

Yeah, just like another Crummey host we really like. ;D (I ain't no dummy). He was famously liberal in the past and suddenly a born-again conservative when he arrived at KFYI.

Personally, I think it would be fun to have Rush Limbaugh become a liberal talk host. THAT would be hillarious!!

I was listening to him yesterday (I know, rare for me) and he was ranting about the article in the Republic (he always call it the Rag) on how the crack down on immigrants is hurting the restaurant business. He was busy asking Andrew and Karolyn (sp?) where they ate out over the weekend. But I didn't notice the bleeps. Rats!

If he says anything he thinks is remotely intelligent, he always repeats it 3 times, so I am surprised I missed it. If you edited his show, and removed all of the times he repeats himself, it would probably be an hour show.

As a rule, I find him hard to listen to for 3 hours. In fact......I've never listened to him for 3 hours

But, when he does sports, he does a great job and has a great show.

Its a balance, any moe can do talk radio, but if you are really smart and understand politics, you are probably doing something better.

So, we get the Michael Savage, Mike Gallagher, Mike Reagan, Bill Press, Stephanie Miller's of the world doing talk that is so transparently phoney as to be laughable.

And locally, we have Bruce and Aunt Carlos.

Goyette, who worked with him said he was a liberal, but went conservative to get a show and ratings.

What, not even a shout out to my good buddy and Rush Wannabe, Rusty Humphires?? ??? I'm hurt!

Sounds like Goyette was talking about himself. At least Brucie can pull in the ratings while doing it!

He was a moderate? We're clearly not talking about the same Bruce Jacobs. A lot of adjectives can be used to describe Bruce and "moderate" has /never/ been one--even in the first week of his show, which I still remember very vividly--he got a lot of angry calls regarding Bob Mohan's departure and whatnot. Bruce laid out the groundwork very plainly on that late August afternoon regarding what he stood for and again "moderate" would not be an accurate description.

Moreover, your assertion on talk radio is kind of an "outside" perspective and is, again, not accurate. In many cases, talk show hosts are not told how to think, what to say, what position to take, etc--contrary to what Charles Goyette and embittered media types might tell you. Although there are a few companies or PD's/GM's who do--and I have documented those here in Phoenix at a station whose call letters rhyme with KTAR AM. So, I disagree with your overall premise.

As to the original topic: I was listening and didn't hear a bleep--did notice a transmitter issue for a moment or three--could have also been the bad signal that KFYI has... oof they should probably fix that.

Finally: It is odd how everyone dishes out the mean spirited discourse for the stations/shows that have the highest ratings, this thread regarding Bruce as a fine example. I guess jealousy and the desire to attack the ones on top still remains. Oh well.

KMGX, I think you missed the point!

Of course talk show hosts are not told how or what to think...but if there is an opening for a liberal talk show host or a conservative talk show host, then Talk Show Host John Doe (with no scruples) says "Oh, I'm a (fill in the blank) talk show host!!!" to get a gig...even though he might not be.

And there sure are LOTS of unscrupulous ones out there. :-\

The truth of the matter is that NOBODY knows ANYTHING about ANYONE....except for YOURSELF!!!

What was the name of that guy, Morton Downey, who said he was attacked in a men's room at the SF airport (turned out he did it himself) I think Jacobs should stage a phoney attack, he could say he was attacked by illegals and Joe Arepile could save him, good for ratings.

Jacobs is a light weight who is a waste of airtime. That station could easily be number one in his timeslot if they put someone good in there. Jacobs is the worst talk show host in this market. Dudeboss should have replaced him a year ago with someone from outside AZ but he is too busy playing golf and with his blackberry to listen to his own morning show. Have you ever heard someone do a worse job running the clock? ;)

They're not aiming for the intellectual cream of the crop. They're appealing to the guy with the confederate flag hanging in his living room, and all the evangelicals, too.

Jacobs is perfect.

Barry, on the other hand, is brilliant.

It is number one in it's timeslot against all other news/talk stations and most stations in the valley period--check out 25-54M and 12+ sometime, you might learn something.

So he's a bad host for not running on a clock? Howard Stern never ran on a clock and I believe he had the number one morning show in about 40 markets. Barry Young is never "on time" for breaks... only a real radio geek would even care if someone is two minutes late to break. You've honestly got to do better than that.

*Yawn*

Instead of peddling this tired rhetoric, I suggest reading the Scarborough report. You may be surprised to know that here in the fandangled 21st century, them talk radio listeners is pretty sophisticated, making more money, more edumacated and probably have a much better understanding of the world around them, etc.

Talk radio listeners (as well as Fox News Channel watchers (a travesty of "news" where the Fox News brass argued all the way through courts that they had the right to lie to the public about a story, when challenged by whistleblower reporters…)) are the most reality-challenged and have no historical context for reviewing current events… …study after study has borne this out.

Savage, Limbaugh, etc.… are nothing but xenophobic hate mongers and the demonstration of how they verbally perform such a role is well chronicled…

Yeah.....what hesaid.

Pardon me for suggesting that Bruce's listeners are anything less than refined. I'm sure they have KBAQ and NPR as two and three on their pre-sets.

Oh, and Patti, hon, ol' Sam here is the cream of corn!
