Jake Hartford's back!

I saw in Feder today that Jake Hartford will be returning to the air waves with WCPT starting on March 29th. His show will air Saturday's from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. His show will be followed by, "Whad'Ya know?" with Michael Feldman. I must say that as someone who doesn't listen to much Liberal Talk, WCPT has put together an awesome Saturday morning lineup that I'll definitely be listening to. However, you'll probably have to catch the first part of Jake's shows on line for a while, as WCPT's broadcast day currently starts after his show begins. Anyway, congratulations Jake!

As someone who has removed the ability to tune into 560 KHZ and 890 KHZ, I have no idea who Jake Hartford might be. I suppose 'LS needs to put on a red neck but how does that fit with Whad ya' know?

I agree Brian, I don't listen to WCPT much but that will change now. This was a great decision on their part to hire Jake.

I am also curious like you to see how they handle the first show. I am just making an educated guess but I would think since they
sign on at 7 they hopefully will wait until 7 to start Jake's first show. Also in April they sign on at 6:15 so I can't see them running
him on the net for only 15 minutes before sign on. I think maybe after the summer they may start him early on the stream when
they have to sign on later than 6. I wish they could get their nightime signal approved. WELCOME BACK JAKE!!!!!!

I saw a press release from WCPT that says Jake's show will be on from sign-on until 10:00AM.

The sign-on time for March is 7:00AM CDT, for April it is 6:15AM CDT.

I think this is great that Jake will be getting a longer show. It seems HIS actual show on WLS had been cut down to about what
46-47 minutes ;)

I'm listening now...what a hoot!

WCPT: We Choose Polka Today.

And don't worry too much about that time thing. To fit into the broadcast day Jake will merely fall forward. If he needs to trim it down some he can squeeze it in by springing back...simple.

Most of his listeners will have to make an adjustment though. Out with all of the right-handed stuff...golf clubs, baseball gloves, scissors, nose-hair trimmers, and cereal bowls (but not the spoon). Up here in the Northern Hemisphere we're all saddled with a Coriolis Effect that steers everything that chooses to move to the right. Will Jake be able to tame this effect and send it swirling to the left? Let's hope he comes to his sense (yes...he only has one) and stops short of totally flummoxing the physicists in their tight knit, Doppler loving, community. He's created enough havoc with the bi-annual clock turners...."change your clock and change your battery...and change your radio dial!".

We'll have to wait and see just how powerful Jake is on his new station...not quite the blowtorch of Willowbrook, but more like a curling iron set on frizz...and I'm very happy to be sporting a frizzy, gray tinged, mop on top!

If you're left or if you're right tune in and wish Jake well..."Polka Fever!"...yeah baby!

Thanks to all who listened and took part in today's debut. For those wishing to plan ahead: Sat April 5 a 615am start, and then 6am from then on.
A little behind the scenes detail...the countdown at the start was the legendary and infamous Carl from Hegewisch.

Jake

P.S. Steve Scott...hope all is well with you. You are in a better place.

Jake, I heard the polka at 7 and it felt like Saturday morning again. Your first show on CPT was great. I really think you should give
away more than one pair of nylons next week though ;D ;D

Anyone know what time it is? ???

Hey Jake, for those of us who are just listeners and not in the industry----what is that station number????I was listening to a "Classic Country" station from God knows where for about 45 minutes yesterday on the way to work waiting for a switchover. Did get to hear "Delta Dawn" and "Don't Leave My Hat on a Hook Too Long," however. What is the station--650, 820, 1600???

WCPT is 820AM. The start time for next weeks show is 6:15 AM. By the way the classic country you were listening too was probably
650AM WSM Nashville.

Jake also mentioned that the show would be starting the following Saturday at 6:00 AM, In April they have a pre-sunrise authority
from the FCC to broadcast with 500 watts from 6 until 6:15, so I guess they will be using it. Then at 6:15 they go to their regular
daytime power of 5,000 watts.

I listened to the show on Saturday for about an hour. As a regular listener to WCPT, I felt like he's out of place. I have never heard him before. IN my opinion, he is far too conservative for WCPT's core market. Listening to his "built in" audience from WLS, they sounded like a bunch of "red-white and blue 'Mericans."

I was actually saddened when he cut off someone who challenged his views on teachers. That said only red necks who agree with his views need to call in.

I hope WCPT hasn't made a mistake. maybe they could carry the Best of Stephanie Miller reruns on WAIT while this guy is on.

I find this post very interesting. Is the usual complaint that conservative stations should hire more liberal hosts because they
are not "fair and balanced"? Now, when a liberal station hires a host who tends to be a little too conservative for you're liking, you
say he does not fit the station? You try and make he and his audience sound like a bunch of red necks. If WLS hired Stephanie Miller
you would be saying how great it was that they finally brought some "balance" to the air. This sounds like typical liberal(I'm open-minded
and "progressive" thinking as long as you agree with me)thinking. How hypocritical.

From what I've heard the management of WCPT is very happy to have the talented Jake Hartford on their station early on Saturday morning. I understand they wish for him to just be himself (creative, humorous, open-minded, entertaining, and friendly) and not change the content or style of his show. Hiring Jake was a good decision. His fans, of course, are thrilled!

If Jake's built in audience who called in last Saturday bothered you b344077 then brace yourself...he has very devoted fans who will continue to flock to WCPT Saturday mornings to partake of the merriment. Don't shun us b344077...join us! We're a happy bunch that likes to have fun. Plain and simple!

Just because you and I may have differing views politically doesn't mean we have to be uncivil to each other or close-minded. I'll bet you and I have more in common than you can imagine. And I'll also bet that you and I most likely want and desire the same things for our families, communities, country, and world. With that said, I'll bet that we disagree on almost every approach on how to achieve all of those wants and desires. It is our responsibility, to future generations, to somehow cobble together a consensus on solutions to the problems facing all of us.

I will be true to my word and be open-minded while listening to the already established listeners of WCPT. Please try to do the same with the followers of Jake. He's a good guy. I look forward to hearing from you on the show. Any right of center middle aged man like myself who enjoys listening to The Grateful Dead, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Dwight Yoakam, Leo Kottke, Ian and Sylvia, and the Blue Velvet Band can't be too bad of a guy...right?

I find it interesting that a station that has been bad mouthed by the "right of center" folks has all of a sudden become their darling simply because the station has chosen to put a red neck on the air. I will say that while I listened last week, my guess is that most listeners probably sit by the mail box and wait for their social security checks to arrive.

Come to think of it, that may be Jake's problem. His listenership tends to skew too old to work and therefore buy anything and that is why he was canned.

My comments were from a business perspective. Let's keep the political stuff out of this. I know that I used inflammatory terms like "red neck" but it was to drive a point. The point was I hope WCPT hasn't made a tactical blunder and is "mixing the message".

Hey b344077...I certainly hope you will be able to listen to the Best of Stephanie Miller reruns on WAIT. It's apparent you won't be listening to Jake. That's all right...it leaves more room on the couch for the rest of us while we tune in and listen to WCPT each Saturday morning!

You know b344077...the ability to be humorous and to enjoy humor is not a quality limited to those only left of center. It is a universal quality found in people from all walks of life. Jake's show provides proof of this and the management at WCPT knows this too.

I would like to thank the management at WCPT for hiring Jake and providing him and his loyal listeners the opportunity to have a humorously good time and I'm sure most of the existing listeners of WCPT will come to enjoy the show as well. Left of the aisle or right of the aisle we're all bozo's on this bus!

I have to go now...things to do...the squeaky hinges on my mailbox need oiling and I've got to track down more bootleg FD&C Red Dye No. 3 for my neck!

:D Chow for now!

Michael:

Here's the problem: There was humor but it was primarily tweaking the progressives. There were inside bits of humor that (I suspect) simply went over the traditional WCPT listeners head. Maybe that's funny to you but I simply didn't get it. ???

It's like a fraternity holding a "bring the ugliest girl on campus" party. Oh yes, there was irony but it wasn't funny. He (and his audience) was laughing at the progressives, not with them.

Listen to the program next week or maybe you just want to do somemore tweaking.

In order to find it "funny" I would have to "buy in" to what he finds funny. I would need to make an investment in his style. Why should any listener have to do that?

I may listen and even call in (He was begging for calls-I did call on saturday and found the phone was answered in one ring-so much for calls on hold) I know a thing or two about some of his favorite subjects and I can hold my own on them. I'd do it just to see how long it would be until he cuts me off so that he can retreat to safer ground.

b344077,

It really shouldn't be a surprise that Jake's initial show would be top heavy with his established listeners like myself. I called in, but did nothing more than wish Jake well and then added a few silly comments...none of which could have been considered as tweaking the progressives. It will take some time for a new audience to develop, but I'm confident that it will. And it will most likely include listeners from the entire width of the political spectrum. It will be fun!

I listened to Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know? Show for the first time last Saturday. He seems to take swipes more frequently at conservatives than liberals and I'm sure his audience is primarily liberal, but I'll keep listening. He's fairly entertaining and as the Presidential race continues I'm sure he'll have much to say on the topic...in an entertaining way.

When it comes to politics there is plenty of fertile ground in regards to comedy...it's non-partisan. Jake, correctly in my opinion, expects all levels of government to operate much more efficiently than present and his criticism of the government around Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois is appropriate concerning their lack of efficiency...none work very well. It is in all of our best interests to demand better.

Like Jake, I don't care which party is in charge so long as the political leaders and bureaucrats are working hard and being productive for the citizens. I think we could agree on that, but disagree on what to do about it.

Jake's show is not about tweaking progressives, but rather tweaking the politicians concerned with not much more than pursuing their own personal agendas at the expense of their constituents. Even the bureaucrats should be upset with this...they get tainted from the criticism of the officials guiding them!

I really do hope to hear you on Jake's show...again...it will be fun!

I also never thought I'd be thanking the management of WCPT, but they've surely earned it with both Jake and Michael Feldman. I'm really glad that Jake is back, and although I don't consider myself a liberal, I have always enjoyed Michael Feldman. It was a brilliant move to put these two guys on back to back.

Don't you agree Brian that Jake's show could be very entertaining if he can somehow corral listeners from left and right and provide a platform from which they can interact and be entertaining at the same time?

Jake, in my opinion, is just the guy to be able to pull that off because of his light-hearted demeanor and skill and after listening to Michael Feldman I believe he has those very same qualities as well.

It will certainly be interesting to see how it all develops. I'm looking forward to it.

Amen brother! Saturdays are really the only day I listen to WCPT, and it's just for that reason.
