Jake Sommers

I'm guessing Jake will have to answer that one. He does drop in here sometimes, so here's hoping. Looks like I'll need to rearrange my presets.

Hello All,

The River was changing directions and it seemed best that I move on. God has plans for me. I have been praying about doing some other things with addicts and alcoholics, maybe this is my chance. It was a GREAT 6 years...Seeing lives changed. Seeing the station go from a 1.5 to a 4 share has been great. I have a lot invested there and I still think it's the best station that I have ever worked at. Dan Baughman, the GM, is my friend and always will be. I am very sad today and a bit scared but I will press on toward the High calling...I know that I am rough around the edges, but I am still a work in progress. :-\

Those of you that pray, Please pray for me. Those of you that don't know the One to pray to...I would be glad to tell you about Him.

Jake

Jake,

Sorry to hear about that. Caught you quite often on The River over the years and even remember your days spinning Country tunes in columbus. I wish you nothing but the best. Everything happens for a reason, One door closes, another will open I am sure. Def got you in the prayers!

God bless!
Matt

I'll never forget the first time heard Jake on the air. I was flying down the highway listening to Star 107.9 and New Kids on the block. The BEST phone jock I'd EVER heard proceded to put everyone else in the market in that time slot to shame. Wow. I was amazed. You know the show is good when you can remember what the jock said 8 years later.

Go a different direction??? Jake, how could that not include you? You were the best thing going for them. The decisions coming out of that place leave me wondering. I'm excited to see where God uses you next. We are all a work in process, but you should be proud of what you are becoming. Praise God!

I agree with you 100%.

tiny threadjack to say:

I'm looking forward to the next great adventure of our life together.. and I am SO proud to be Mrs. Jake Sommers.

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that. The only time I listened to The River was in the afternoons because of Jake. That's a real shame.

If you read between the lines, he was either asked to quit or be fired. Either way, he is out. He is now part of a long list of people who have been fired or quit on their own while this GM has been in charge. Because of this amount of people, my guess is that the GM is developing an unfavorable reputation in the Christian radio industry and is having a hard time getting quality people who want to come work here. If that is the case, that's sad. This can be a great market for Christian radio.

WCVO's morning show stinks. I don't like Scott & Sam. I feel like I am listening to Dino and Shawn. Tracy Leek does a good job doing the weather and news. But she is in Florida and has her own radio show down there. Sherry does a great job.
I don't like how they also repeat their music. How annoying!
Best of wishes to you Jake! You deserve the very best!

I could tell you the names of one or two pretty well known Christian industry programmers who were asked to apply for the Program Director job at the River after Kurt Wallace left. At least one of them turned it down because of WCVO's GM's reputation. Of course, he didn't tell the GM that was the reason he wasn't interested. You can't run a radio station like a telemarketing call center just cutting great talent loose when they look at you sideways. That is a management skill problem. The problem isn't with all of the people who left.

It's a shame. The good news is that Jake is very talented and will be back on the radio soon.

Jake, It's Ham Bone.

Welcome to the Club

Let me know if you need anything. You know where I work.

:)

A memo went out from Tony Florentino yesterday saying that Jake was joining the CRG (Columbus Radio Group) family and would be on the air this Saturday. The memo didn't indicate what time or which of the CRG stations he'd be on, though. I hope it turns out to be something really good for Jake.
