JAM THE LINES AT CC ATLANTA

Contacts:

Pat McDonnell

VP/GM, Clear Channel Atlanta

[EDIT]

Call this idiot and tell him what you think.............

Atlanta radio is TOAST>

Good luck with your projects. I know you lot are bitter and twisted about the changes that have taken place in the market, but aside from the regular posters in here, how many of you have actually gotten opinions from the listeners themselves? ???

Can anybody honestly tell me about a campaign to save a station (by listeners or radio employees/wannabee's) that has actually been successful? At the end of the day, it will be the market place (listeners->advertisers) that decides whether a station is to succeed.

You can flood them. All I've read around here are posts bitching about how WKLS sucks, how WBZY won't work, etc. Not to mention the amount of bad talk towards the Kimmer and Denny's shows, now people are acting like those two are some kind of Atlanta radio martyrs.

This is because no-one is happy unless there is something to bitch about. ::)

I understand how you feel, but let’s be realistic. CC made these decisions knowing that a certain number of listeners like you and I would not be happy about the changes. It’s their decision and they decided to move in a different direction. Any 'jam the lines' efforts are a waste of time.

Your only real option is to stop listening to all Clear Channel owned stations. It’s working out pretty good for me.

Or, if you are so disillusioned by what the big boys are doing, go and buy an MP3 player from Wal-Mart or somewhere... Unless of coarse you have something against them too.

Good advice,

But it is just so upsetting to see what has happened to radio in this City.
I am a native Atlantan, and it feels like we are being attacked from an outsider, and no one has any say so. Why do we need 3 major Country outlets, not to mention the rimshotters.
I do not think Nashville has 3??????????

I'm not in your area but always find amusing how the posters here are so defensive about any changes to the soundtrack of their lives.People here nonstop complain about stations, djs, and music until someone changes something. Then the Atlanta board Civil War reenactment begins. No one tore down city hall or destroyed any monuments. It's radio and a business populated by the single most tempermental egotistical people on earth, possibly second only to chefs, and you're like underlings defending 6 figure salary people so they'll think you're OK in their books.Nothing could be further from the truth. The station you're complaining about losing is a lite ac one I assume and most people here are male so I would assume few of you even really care from the listening point of view. Most here post with that vagueness that says "maybe I'm im in radio and maybe I'm not"but when this stuff starts it becomes obvious 90% of the people here never set foot inside a radio station. When I see people complaining that their favorite station was messed with I take it seriously. When I see people complaining about change because nothing in life is supposed to change it's laughable.

Then usually 3 days later most threads here end with people trying to one-up each other with not-so-clever little one-liners that have nothing to do with the original topic. This place is like an episode of Designing Women.Get over things you never cared about in the first place.Radio people recover faster than most of you and if you think they read your one-liners and think "Wow he's clever.Bet he'd be good on the air.",you're wrong.

Nashville has 3 100kw country FMs licensed to Nashville: WKDF, WSM-FM, WSIX. All are successful.
Each has a different approach. And there's 50kw 650 WSM-AM hanging in there, too.
I'm not saying Atlanta needs 3 country FMs...but if each is somewhat different from the others...why not?
And...after being in a 3-station race...I promise, KICKS is concerned about having their numbers diluted.

Lee Anderson: The CC 'big boys' own the stations and can do whatever they want. No problem here. I just chose to stop listening. I’ve got XM and MP3 and switch over to WSB for traffic. Life is good.

and.u.r?: I’m a LISTENER. I’ve never set foot in a radio station. I was unhappy with decisions CC made at GST and 96Rock and posted about it here. It takes a pretty dedicated listener to go out of their way to call a station or come to this board and complain. One thing I’ve noticed is that there are people in the radio business who have little respect for the listeners that they depend on for their livelihoods.

For some, it's the whole "showbiz" thing. You are the unwashed.....you must be enlightened....you must be shown the way.
It is just another form of elitism. It is human nature to form hierarchies....you just happen to be on the bottom in thier world.
As the elite say....."Let um' eat Ketchup."

TO Begin- Pat McDonnell has not been the GM over at CC for almost 2 years. Secondly, you slander his name by calling him an idiot. He is one of the finest people in radio that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. It might be wise to know your facts before you start making disparaging comments about somebody.

Nashville is a country music town much more than Atlanta. It has more history especially with the Grand Ole Opry and their recording history. Atlanta while in the south is far more diverse so I don't think it is a great comparison. Atlanta probaly has stronger Southern Rock and Rap/Hip Hop roots than country music. Yes I am aware that some very good country music artist come from here but that does not mean that is the type of city Atlanta is. There are probably more country bars in a couple block radius in Nashvllle than all of metro Atlanta.

Bottom Line is I do not think Atlanta will support three big countryy music stations like Nashville can.

Yeah but all kicks will do is dump the eagle since they are the same radio station. they were "happy" completing with themselves but throw in a real "opponent" and they will dump eagle faster than they crap canned Moby for being "too southern" to be a dj on a country music station in the deep south.........

look at it this way:

The existing listeners were few.

For example, WGST had under a 2.0 share. Why cater to so few listeners.

Radio does not have an obligation toward listeners. Radio has an obligation to generate ratings and revenue.

Take your heads from your rears. Radio cares about the listeners as long as listeners care about radio.

Jerks.

Meanwhile we have 4 rock stations, and no one complains.

4 rock stations where? Not in Atlanta, we don't even have one true rock station here that I am aware of...........
