Jammin' 105.9 running 96.7 KissFM promos?

Heard it this morning.. "96-7 Kiss FM - keeps Austin Jammin".. or something of the sort... I suppose they're trying to move the listeners over for the pending sale...

i thought clear channel put the station in some trust fund (aloha broadcasting) and after the buyout, then they were gonna put the station back into clear channel.

Hahaha.. not a trust fund, but a trust - Aloha Trust is a holding company, which will take over 'ownership' until an official sale is made.. From what I understand, the sale will be a sale -> The # of stations that can be owned by one company in the Austin market went from 6 to 5 (something along those lines), and CC and Emmis were initially grandfathered into keeping their 6, but as cc's ownership is changing hands, they have to give up their sixth Austin station, per the FCC..

Regardless, they still played a Kiss promo this morning... just wondering if anyone else has heard them...

Yes I noticed that several days ago. Not just in the morning but in the afternoon. I heard them say Jammin 105.9 plays yesterdays top 40, tune in to KISS FM 96.7 to hear todays Top 40 and they had some of the music they play on KISS in the background. I was wondering what was up with that myself.

Yeah, you're basically right. The two stations have the same PD and he is anticipating the sale of 105.9. I guess its probably a good strategy, but it kind of makes everybody look stupid. There have been so many screw-ups in regards to that station anyways....probably just as well that its getting sold.

I really hope, whoever buys it will actually do something great with that station. Its a good frequency. Ive said this before but doubt it would happen but would love to see this station go more Rythmic dance. Maybe call it something like Energy 105.9 Dance hits.

It is a good frequency, but I wouldn't get too worked up about your format idea. Dance isn't really viable. If you really want it on the air then you should try and find an open LPFM channel.

I am at a loss about who the potential buyers could be. Emmis is at the cap. Entercom seems more interested in selling than buying. BMP recently sold stations and has had some financing problems. This leaves just Univision, because there are not many buyers looking for a 20-25 million dollar stand-alone.

If they are the buyer that would mean the format choices are:

- Reggaeton
- Spanish AC
- Tejano

I don't think any of these formats have huge upsides in Austin.

Maybe they should keep Jammin and sell off The River to Salem who could then glob together a few dog AMs for a cluster.

i was reading the houston radio board about who can buy the stations out, there are some references about the partnership buying clear channel already has some type of investment in univision and another company. so univision probably can't buy jamming 105.9. bmp is cash strapped. entercom might or maybe some new company or some existening company in austin might try to buy 105.9. types of formats i not going to say. thanks captex

I agree with you about the Dance at this time, though hopefully someday that will change. Whoever buys it will either leave as is with hopefully new jocks and shows or will change it to something completely different.

Posted by: captex bmp is cash strapped.

Where did you get this info from? I believe I read Chase Bank and others were investing millions into BMP. Anyhow, I wouldn't doubt that BMP has already inquired about purchasing 105.9. Another potential buyer could be Salem.

somebody on the houston board was talking what companies would buy out the stations in houston and posted about bmp being cash strapped.

Unfortunately, The River seems to be a pet project with somebody high up in the Clear Channel royal family. It is doing okay right now and getting better (not something I would have ever predicted). The bottom line is that 102.3 is a better overall frequency with better coverage in Austin so format aside it makes more sense to keep 102.3.

What you say is true, but when was the last time that Clear Channel really took something like that into consideration? What they see I'm sure is that those stations are not making much of a dent ratings wise and are probably not tapping into all that religious money to be made out there. Besides, I think they feel good being wholesome or something like that. Probably think it makes them look better in the conservative eyes of the FCC. I would personally like to see Z102 return.

i second that. bringing back z 102. or someone else buying the station and bringing the former z 102 classic rock back.

The River will flow awhile longer.
CC sees $$$ in chirstian pop radio.
They've seen the revenue it generates in Dallas and Houston.
There's money to be made selling airtime to wannabe evangelists and promoting christian-style concerts.
Then there's the advertisers who want to appeal to a right-leaning crowd.
It all adds up.

I don't consider Austin being right leaning at all, let alone religious but I would assume alot of the listeners they are getting are in Williamson County, wich is very right leaning and religious.
