Today at 5pm ( 4/1/09 ) 94 WHJY Providence will end there long time rock format and will begin simulcast there sister station Jamn 94.5 from Boston ( Jamn 94.5 and 94.1 )

They could simulcast it on 93.3 instead. At least way they can publicize it in the trades but no one would hear it so no damage done.

I started board-op'ing in 1992 at Jammin and have recently moved to California where I do weekends at a small station and spend most of my time with my 3 daughters. We have always talked about doing this and couldn't be more excited for the crew!

go get 'em!!

No, this is an April Fools post. The closest thing to urban music you'll hear on HJY would be if Charles played Afroman's Because I Got High.

Actually, when I was working down the hall, Charles was partial to "King Kong" by Lil' Wayne and Chamillionaire's "Ridin'"... They were usually coming full blast out of the cue speaker system from the HJY studio...

Now really think about this for a minute if you looking to save money.

WJMN on in Providence on 94.1 as a simulcast. 1 staff two stations dont have to mess with imaging at all just sneak in a a buried legal for WHJY.

Move WHJY over too 101.5 because lets face it It 's a strong station.

Move classic hits to 93.3 canning everything on WSNE.

Now for Citadel.

Because Hip Hop would now be on 94.1 from a simulcast put WPRV programming on 106.3. It's not that expensive to run that station. Canning all the WWKX staff.

See this could work.

Think, If you were told to cut costs. This would be a win, win for cost cutting at both companies.

There isn't a snowball's chance in hell Citadel Providence sticks with True Oldies after Scott Shannon's on air tirade informing everyone before managment could(and they had the info packets ready to go just making final decisions.

Kenny, after years of 94HJY & B101 you're suggesting a frequency swap so we'll have 101HJY & B93 for no apparent reason but to confuse & irritate listeners. Then in spite of this being an April Fools post, JAMN barges in on 94.1 so Citadel says "OK Jamn's here. Let's go. Bring on Lesley Gore & The Big Bopper. We already have older demos for WPRO & WEAN & Lite is aiming for an AC audience that doesn't know who Katy Perry is, so let's bring a format to FM that brings us an even older audience to not be able to sell."

By the way, I hear that Bruce Newbury dines out on WHJJ again on Saturdays so that may be a result of whatever flip is coming to WPRV.

Hot 106

Hip-hop and R&B on a 50,000 watt local signal?  Would be a welcome change for those listeners on the west side of Providence and the east side of Johnston who put up with Hot 106's crappy signal in the area near Lite Rock 105's tower on Neutaconkanut Hill.  Amazing that Hot 106 does as well as it does in the ratings when a good size part of the big city can't even hear them clearly on a car radio, never mind a home radio.  Actually Jam'n 94.5 did do something like this in the Worcester area on 94.9 but it did not last, and 94.9 is now simulcasting 580 WTAG.  However, with the direction that Jam'n is going in now, becoming more of a pop station, some Jam'n listeners may be changing over to Hot 106 for more urban music.  They also need to do something about the lousy signal in that area of Providence.  A translator would be the best thing since they can't change increase their tower power.  Even if they went on 93.3, the signal is affected by 92 PRO FM's tower in that same area.  Maybe use 94.9 for a low power translator on the hill for Hot 106.
