JAMN' 94.5 - THE EARLY DAYS

I know there are some on here who are critical of Jamn' 94.5 playlist these days...

So who here remembers when 94.5 flipped from WZOU to JAMN' 94.5? IIRC correctly, they leaned VERY RHYTHMIC in the early days:

Some songs I recall them playing after the flip:

-FUN FACTORY Close To You
-REAL MCCOY ANother Night
-ROBIN S. Show Me Love
-ALISHA Too Turned On (*I recall this one vividly, it was the first song I heard them play as Jamn' 94.5! It was in the afternoon, I was in my car, and Karen Blake introduced the song and asked a female caller "what do you think about the change?" And the caller replied "I love it!!!" ... I was like "WHAT change??" and then Karen siad "Jamn 94.5" ... I was stunned)
-BALTIMORA Tarzan Boy (DANCE REMIX) !!!!!!!!!! (No kidding! They only played this for a few weeks after the flip... perhaps in an attempt to keep some of WZOU's old demo? Before the flip, this song was on WZOU's playlist, however they played the regular album version.)
-TAG TEAM Whoomp! There It Is
-ZHANE Hey Mr. DJ
-US 3 Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)
-AMBER This Is Your Night
-CRYSTAL WATERS Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless) -AND- Just Say Hey (If It Feels Alright)
-K-7 Move It Like This

**ALSO: Two rhythmic songs appeared on Jamn's playlist as late as 2000 :

-SONIQUE Feels So Good
-EIFFEL 65 Blue

^I remember Roy Barboza playing both of those on "The 5'oclock traffic jam!!!"

**ALSO... Back in 97-or-98, Jamn' BRIEFLY ADDED CELINE DION'S My Heart Will Go On! (During the "Titanic" Craze!)

I know after I post, I will think of some more I have missed! CAN ANYONE ELSE add to the list above?

_____________________________________________________________

THE ORIGINAL WEEKDAY LINEUP (JOCKS):

-MORNING DRIVE: J.R. W/ CHRIS ZITO (Team stayed on from WZOU, replaced about 6 months later IIRC, by Baltazaar (at first W/OUT PEBBLES, who was still at WILD at the time IIRC)... however, in between J.R. and Baltazaar, I BELIEVE Mark Clark held down morning drive for about a month (?)

-MIDDAYS: MIKE MCGOWAN, I think (?)

-AFTERNOON DRIVE: If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was Karen Blake, like I said above, I distinctly remember hearing Jamn' 94.5 for the first time in the afternoon, and "The Madam" was DEFINITELY the DJ on duty that day! I know for a fact, later on Jo Jo Kincaid was added to fill the afternoon drive slot, and perhaps at that time they moved The Madam to nights? ???

-NIGHTS: I think eventually the first nighttime DJ on Jamn' was Ralphie Marino, but I don't believe he came on board right away... I can't remember who this was... perhaps it was Diana Steele? ???

Just goes to show how very different Jamn' 94.5 was BACK IN THE DAY! 8)

Personally, I thought WJMN did a great job making the transition from CHR/Pop to Rhythmic back in '93.

BTW JAMN' 94.5 also played these acts as well: Vengaboys, Selena, Spice Girls, Donna Lewis, Gina G., and even Limp Bizkit!

Kid Valentine did nights for a short time after the flip before he moved to Dallas.

I have an aircheck of him backselling Come Baby Come from summer 1993.

Ah yes, I almost listed Kid Valentine for the nighttime slot, however I thought he had moved on as soon as ZOU flipped to Jamn'.... thanks for clearing that up, and I would LOVE to hear that aircheck! :)

*A note on afternoons: I believe that Tom Jefferies (in his second stint at the station) was the last regular afternoon drive host for WZOU before th flip to Jamn'.

Yes... YES!!! I remember all of those:

VENGA- We Like To Party
SELENA- I Could Fall In Love
SPICE GIRLS- Say You Will Be There, Two Become One
-DONNA LEWIS- I Love You Always Forever
-GINA G.-Ooh Ahh Just A Little Bit (Only during the daytime hours however, don't think it ever made it to the mixshows)
-LIMP BIZKIT- N2GETHER NOW... W/ METHOD MAN!!!! 8)

Hard to believe that this same station was the once invincible WCOZ "94 and a half, C-O-Z, Kick ass rock and roll!". I kinda miss it. But, the problem with 'COZ under Sebastian was that it was too repetitive, too liner card-ish and had no personality. Sure they got the fast buck with astronomical ratings (at first), but it got pretty old, pretty quick. Eventually it was all over within two years. In early '84, "The Best Show in Boston" AC format was pretty good but it was never given a chance to grow. Within six months, in September, 1984, 94.5 morphed into WZOU, "Boston's Zoo". How original ;).

I personally don't venture to 94.5 all that much these days........ "but my kid listens to it" :D

Here's a couple more tracks I remember Jam'n playing circa 1994-1996:

Culture Beat - Mr. Vain
The Bucketheads - The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) Classic house jam!!
Reel 2 Real - I Like To Move It
La Bouche - Be My Lover
Corona - Rhythm of the Night

They were ACTUALLY rhythmic at this point, now they are a pseudo-urban as I call them.

I also remember those great underground house mixes they did Friday & Saturday night's.
With Gary Conavo & Neil Petricone. Yep those were the days. :(

Jamn played alot of "Ace of Base" music (" I saw the Sign" and "all she want is a baby" )

I came across a tape of WJMN I made back in 1995 or 96, featuring Lady D backselling Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me." Pretty funny when you consider what the station plays today.

Haha, I remember all those other songs too. Ace Of Base, TOO FUNNY. It's great to look back... ;D

Here are a few other songs that just sprung to mind that I recall Jamn' playing "back in the day"... 8)

LA BOUCHE Sweet Dreams
OUTHERE BROTHERS Boom Boom Boom
DUICE Dazey Dukes 8)
LIZETTE MELENDEZ Together Forever
LISA LISA (? I Think) Let The Beat Hit 'Em

And also Jamn' played.... *GASP*... :

LOS DEL RIO Macarena!!!

^I remember the above song because that was back when Jamn' was in direct competition with Kiss (before the merger) and the two stations played a slightly different version of The Macarena (but they were both the Los Del Rio versions...)

I can't remember, aside from Lisette Melendez, did Jamn' play any of the other "freestyle" (as in dance, not rap, haha) such as Stevie B., TKA, Cover Girls, etc. ??? ... I know ZOU used to play a lot of that stuff, especially while Sunny Joe was at the helm...

*And one random note: When the station first launched, their positioner was "The Beat of Boston--Jamn' ninety-four-POINT-five, instead of just today's "Jamn' ninety-four-five". 8)

Jamn played Father MC ( Treat them like they wanted be treated ??? ) like it was a new song, But that song was like 2 or 3 years old . Same thing with Bob Marley " stir it Up" and "Buffalo Soldier ", But these two hits, must had been over 15 years old ( at that time JAMN Played them ) .

You all forgot Vinnie Paruzzi who was there when it was WZOU, he did "Sunday Night Club Classics" from 1991, even when they switched to Jammn 94.5 he continued to stay there for about two months after.

Artie The One Man Party used to host Saturday nights 6pm-10pm until about 1992, then Marc Clark used to host Saturday nights on both WZOU and when they switched to Jamn 94.5. Both were on 6pm-10pm

Kid Valentine used to have that "Top 30 Throwdown" He used to Broadcast that live Saturday afternoons 2pm-6pm at Tower Records. When Jammin 94.5 came about, Marc Clark took over that countdown for two weeks. That was the BOMB!!!!

Hmmm... I thought it was Vinnie Paruzzi that broadcasted the Top 30 Throwdown from Tower (during the WZOU days)... ???

Marc Clark ("Marc with a 'c', Clark with no 'e'"!) also did weekday nights. I have an aircheck from about summer '94 of him doing the nightly "Countdown" at 9 (included on that countdown is Coolio - "Fantastic Voyage", House of Pain - "On Point").
He still does voice overs for them correct? I may have even heard him filling in once or twice in the past couple of years. He's still around as far as I know.

Father MC feat. Jodeci - "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" I recall hearing this quite a bit in Summer of '93, just a couple months after Jamn' had launched. Ironically I don't think I've ever even heard Marley on the station in the 20 years or so I've been listening, as Jamn' or Z-94.

Good memory, but no
Vinnie Paruzzi did "Sunday Night Club Classics"

aside note, yes Lady D was on Jamn 94.5 on weekday middays when in their early days of Jammin 94 5

yes "Marc with a C, Clark with no E" I think he still remain there doing production for Clear Channel Jamn and KISS 108

Truth be told Jam'n received my vote for best radio station of 1995! Then in '96 they went much more hip hop like they are now.
