Jamn 94.5 has seen a decline in ratings for 4 STRAIGHT MONTHS. They are now the 10TH MOST POPULAR FORMAT IN THE AREA. Wow. Weren't they in the top 3 for most of the 2000s? Hot 96.9 Is killing them with their throwback selection. I recently heard Jamn trying to do some damage by starting a throwback Thursday segment or something like that, I also caught them spinning throwback at lunch during Hot 96.9 Throwback Lunch Hour. There are also Jamn billboards popping up as far south as Foxboro and as far west as Worcester. They have also started spining a Nice 9 at 9, akin to the Sexy 7 at 7 they used to play. It seems they are really doing they're best to stay afloat because Hot 96.9 Is really poised to close in on them. Jamn has brought in a new core of DJs to compete with hot (6.9's copycat style but I really think they're only hope at this point is to go Urban Contemporary. People wouldn't even notice because the only ones still listening are just blind followers of Jam'n and it might get back some of the urban crowd that has gone to Hot 96.9 because they play extremely hip hop heavy throwbacks...I heard Back That A** Up by Juvenile, OPP by Naughty by Nature, Big Poppa, Old school dancehall tracks, No Diggity by Black Street, This is how we do by G-Unit). Roy Barboza Is playing a full on UC/UC AC at night and during lunchtime.
That being said I've definitely noticed Jamn has increased the urban feel of the station but they have recently killed that by re inserting Swedish House Mafia into their playlist this week. It seems they're content to learn the hard way. CC, if your reading this, an Urban Contemporary "Power 101.7" would HAVE to do better than Evolution 101.7 because those ratings and that station are an absolute joke. Jamn is a lost cause unless it totally goes urban so you might as well open one up where Evolution is and take some listeners away from Hot.
