Jam'n at #3 with adults?

First of all, WTF? ???

I have a 15-year-old niece whose friends listen to the gangbanger rap station whose target audience seems to come from the corner of Bowdoin St. and Geneva Ave. (Which is a big reason why she listens to Country 102.5 - or almost anything else - instead of Jam'n.) She was even more shocked than I was to hear that Jam'n was #3 among adults in their 30s and 40s, while WKLB was "just #7." I wasn't shocked at 'KLB's rank, just Jam'n's.

My question for you out there: how shocked were you to read the Boston Herald's Jessica Heslam's blog revealing the top 10 25-54, and seeing Kiss (teenybopper music/hard rock with what I thought was "no appeal" to those between 30 and 49) at #2 and Jam'n at #3? My only conclusion about Jam'n's strong adult showing is that we're nearing the end of the world, and a massive number of irresponsible adults are crackhead welfare parents who sit at home drinking malt beverages and watching "Oprah" (which according to MAD Magazine is her brother's way of saying "obeseity") are responsible (?!?) for Jam'n's huge adult numbers. Like Howie Carr, Rush Limbaugh, michael Savage and of course D&C, I do believe in blanket statements, and of course in "guilty until proven innocent." ::)

While perhaps a tiny bit surprised that Jam'n was quite that high 25-54, I'm not shocked. Look, I'm 30 years old (right in that demo), I grew up listening to both Kiss and Jam'n. Kiss is still my #1 preset and Jam'n is #3.

Kiss (also keeping in mind that they have Matty who still has considerable appeal to the upper end of that demo that grew up listening to him since he's been around for nearly 30 years) does not cater only to teeny-boppers. The music is very adult friendly as well - even to 40-something moms who might be listening with their kids.

And I would imagine that Jam'n still has quite a wide appeal to the younger end of that 25-54, say 25-34 who are all people that grew up listening to Jam'n and listening to hip hop and are much accustomed to it.

What I personally find more intriguing (not that it really matters from a business standpoint very much but...) is that Kiss beat Jam'n for 12-17 in the fall book, at least...not sure about winter.

I would merely suggest that you (especially as a guy and I'm guessing at least 35 or so) and your niece are especially pre-disposed to not caring for the type of music that Kiss and Jam'n play. I think most people tune in because it's the kind of music they like, not because they care one way or another about the silly callers that Jam'n puts on the air. There are a lot more people listening than just those silly callers too...as the ratings show.

Urban A/C fans listen to Jamn . Boston Needs a Urban A/C outlet . NOW !

some people just don't get it----Hip Hop is the new Top 40...get over it and accept it..if you don't like it--you're old

JAM'N scoring so well with adults 25-54 in 2007 must parallel the era when rock stations like WBCN started getting adult numbers. Must have been shocking.

Wonder what the kids of the parents who listen to hip hop will be listening to when they're teenagers? Most likely hip hop at this point. I remember before "rap music" became popular, 13 year olds were listening to the same music as their parents. If you love hip hop now, and hate whatever comes along next, you too will be "old".

I live outside of Hartford. However, when I'm in the Boston metro, the first station I'll tune in is JAM'N 94.5, followed by KISS 108 once the over-modulation from the Pru kicks in on I-90 by the Allston/Brighton toll booths. I like some Top 40 mixed with the R&B. Mostly it's out of loyalty, since I've listened to them off and on with day trips there since 1995 or so. Kiss 108 sounds great to me. Certainally better than what passes as "Kiss" here (WKSS-FM 95.7 of Hartford/Meriden). As for me, I'm 36. Do I fit their target numbers? :)

Bowdin and Geneva...right by the old Purity Supreme....

I think JAMN is a whack top 40 station. Hot 93.7 in hartford is an example of a real hip hop station that will work with new England demographics and not be as whack. CBS should use the expertise developed in that market to wrestle away the 18-34 m demo WBCN lost to WAAF and WJMN.

I still would flip WBCN to a non rap rhythmic format Using the Movin format but heavier on RnB oldies.

Keep the BCN call letters AND the Pats move the Rock n Roll rumble to WZLX

Sounds like the late Star 93.7 .
