Jamn Music

Hey
Just wondering what others think. Been listening to Jamn a lot and they
keep playing the same music all the time. Over and over again, why do radio
stations do that. ISn't it as easy and the same cost to play whatever they
want, I don't understand why stations play the same songs over and over and
over again, I don't work in the radio industry, so really curious if someone could explain thanks.

More jocks on JAMn would be great, where is MARC CLARK?????????

Repetition=Ratings. Jamn' (and other hit based stations) isn't overly interested in a high TSL. They are interested in a high cume/sampling rate. The reason radio stations play the same songs over and over again is that most listeners (especially thoughs in Jamn's demo) only listen to radio for fairly short periods at a time. They want to make sure that you hear something familiar every time you tune in so you actually keep tuned in for as long as possible even though they know it won't be for that long and so you return.

you would be surprised if you sat in and listened to the callers of stations such as jamn..or any other hit station...you could play a song, and 3 minutes later you have people calling in for the exact same song..they DO want to hear it often as well.

Marc Clark is in a secret location, relaxing and contemplating his next move :)
I talked to him a few days ago...he will no doubt bounce back.

For what its worth, I have been in the Philly area over the past few days and have been enjoying such stations as Wired 96.5 (WRDW), Power 99 (WUSL), 100.3 The Beat (WPHI), Q 102 etc. All of them remind me of how very flat and lackluster the music selection on JAMN 94.5 is. Granted, WUSL and WPHI lean more toward Urban Contemporary - but even CHR's down here such as 96.5 and Q102 mix it up a lot better than JAMN. This market is comparably sized, but has a little higher percentage of minorities. But, the difference is not that pronounced outside of the city proper. The 'burbs are ethnically quite similar to Boston's. Also, it has more of an urban legacy - musically - than Boston.

Perhaps JAMN's musical "flatness" is because of a lack of real competition, or maybe it is because of a musically not-so-sophisticated audience. Hot 97.7, for example, has too limited of a signal to cause much consternation at JAMN. Nonetheless, you are right - musically, JAMN is just mailing it in.
