Jamz PD...anyone?

So as of Monday, 101.5 Jamz has a new PD...one Dennis Martinez, lately of KYLD in San Fran. The news hit All Access and R&R this morning, but so far there's been no comment from the peanut gallery here at Radio-Info.

Well? Anyone?

Bueller's on vacation.

And...
Dennis Martinez who pitched for the Expos some years ago?
Guess not.

Also...
Does KZON still have that "suicidal" song in power rotation?
Right after the flip they were playing it about once an hour.
Sort of the Brown Eyed Girl of hip hop. ;D

Yeah, they added Sean Kingston to their power songs last week. (i.e. a song they play 130 times)

And the lack of posts seems to say something...

It says that we have yet another hip-hop station in a market that doesn't need it.

The same songs over and over, with the same liner produced with different work parts makes for a bland station. I dare say a winamp on shuffle would be preferable. Who would want to program this station?

Looks like no one cares so far--only 250 MySpace friends (not a direct way to see how a new station is doing, but only 250?!), and it looks like 70% of them are artist profiles and station affilates.

If we're judgin' on myspace friend - movin 975 just barely has 500

Dennis Martinez's stay at KYLD in SF was fairly brief...for good reason. From what I saw while I was there, he didn't cooperate well with other components (sales, promo, etc). Not say he wasn't a nice guy.

He was...Just didn't seem to have it going and was TERRIBLE at returning phone calls. To be fair, it wasn't a whole lot of fun at ClearChannel SF at the time...But he did himself no favors. I hope he learned from that experience.

Also, hopefully Dennis has gotten healthier or the Phoenix heat will kick his butt.

I don't think the lack of comments on this board means that Jamz is not doing well or topical, It just means that the demographic on this board (or most other radio-info markets) gives a rats pa-tootie about hip hop or younger formats. Most of the posters on this board (not all, but most) are out of touch with the 18-34 demo.

Wanna test the theory? Go to most market's radio-info page and ask about the hip hop station and see how many responses you get.
