The fact that Rock 98.9 was yanked off the air mid-song a few years ago should tell you all you need to know about the way rock works in Seattle. Rock 98.9 was never able to beat either of the established rock stations, though I talked to a few people who appreciated the fact that they actually rocked in drive time, rather than being mostly talk like KISW.
 
I'm looking at KISW's playlist, it's a mix of rock and alternative. Hell, I saw Kendrick Lamar on the playlist. You need an actual rocker in the market that just doesn't give a crap. GenX and older Millennials are the honey pot demographic right now.
