Since Tom Ashbrook's departure from "On Point" several weeks ago failed morning TV anchorette, Jill Clayson has taken over.
At the beginning of the program she invites callers to call in to the appropriate topic but hardly ever takes calls.
This morning to be specific, Clayson was doing a round up of the week's issues and asked callers to call in which I did.
In fact, I was the first caller on-line the producer told me. I waited and waited and waited and waited and..and then I heard the famous "click" which means you are on-air but still potted down. And then I waited some more.
Finally after being on hold for 30 minutes the producer came on and told me that they were moving on although they were still talking about the bridge collapse and Clayson continued to talk to her panel of guests.
At about 10:45 AM when the program airs live in the Boston area Clayson took one call which lasted all of 10 seconds.
Piece of advice to WBUR-FM which originates the PBS program out of its Boston University studios, don't ask me for money and contributions again if you allege to run a "talk program" but never take calls.
Tom Ashbrook seemed to have more control of his program than this inexperienced Jane Clayson.
Drop the call-in aspect of "On Point" if you are not going to take calls and bring back Tom Ashbrook!
