JANE McGARRY (KXAS-TV/Fort Worth) arrested for DWI

Happened early Sunday morning on the Dallas North Tollway. According to http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com, "McGarry was pulled over in a 2007 Porsche after failing to signal a lane change on the tollway, according her arrest report. The report says she had bloodshot, droopy eyes, swayed while standing and "used a loud tone of voice when talking." She admitted to drinking three glasses of wine, according to the report, but refused a breathalyzer, resulting in a mandatory blood test. She also failed several sobriety tests -- including the "walk and turn," the "one leg stand" and the alphabet. This was McGarry's first DWI arrest, and she has no previous convictions, according to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office."

30 year career thrown away in the blink of an eye. Sad and really stupid.

Had she committed a 3rd degree felony instead of just a misdemeanor offense, then I would've agreed with you.

Well, anchors have recovered from worse. Here in Austin Michelle Valles was stopped when she was a relatively hot property at KXAN. She wound up leaving there, did a soft magazine show and IIRC, mornings, over at KEYE. Now she has been picked up by NBC4 out in L.A.

My best to her....and hopefully Jane McGarry can recover as well.

Lesson: Be sure to use your turn signal with changing lanes! How many times have I seen police change lanes with no signal... too many times to remember. But I've seen them do it many times, thinking "that would get me pulled over and a probably a ticket". Wonder what the traffic conditions were at the time of the offense? At least she wasn't going north in the southbound lanes.

Hey people. Get a grip. If every radio and TV person who has driven under the influence was taken off the air the stations would be shut down.

We've ALL done it, but most of us had the great good fortune of not hurting anyone and not getting stopped for it.

So let him or her who has never done this cast the first stone.

The usual is going to happen:

1. A somewhat believable apology.
2. A press release by the company the person works for about the issue.
3. Rehab.
4. Return to work.

Possible, but I suggest the following:

1. Suspension
2. Press release from KXAS
3. Return to work
4. Somewhat believable apology
5. Series of news stories on the dangers of drunk driving
6. Non-renewal of contract at next expiration

On "NBC5 News @ 4"... "Jane will remain off the air as the company looks into the matter".

I doubt I could pass the sobriety test with my bad right ankle, right hip and left knee! Alphabet.. not a problem.

In other words: "we haven't fired her yet. When she either admits she did this or is found guilty, we will terminate her employment at that time." NBC5 management will be happy to keep her off the air and let viewers forget about her until they can quietly and legally let her go when her guilt is proven or admitted.
