Jane McGarry leaves KXAS

From her Facebook page:

Hi, it's been a while. I want to thank you for all your kindness. You have touched my heart. I have something I want to tell you.

I pleaded no contest to a Class B misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. I apologize for my irresponsible behavior and am grateful that the police did their job and no one was hurt. Blood alcohol tests showed my blood alcohol level was .11, which is over the legal limit, and therefore I should not have been driving. I have paid a fine of $1,200, will be on probation for 18 months and will participate in at least 40 hours of community service. I am deeply sorry for making such a terrible mistake and pledge it will never happen again.

Jane

You are so right formeraa. You can bet the suits at KXAS were deliriously happy to get a chance to push a highly paid news veteran out the door and hire someone younger and cheaper from one of the many medium markets all over Texas. Jane's unfortunate DWI was their golden opportunity and they grabbed it.

The hypocrisy here is obvious and breathtaking. If I were somehow able to instantaneously fire every TV news anchor who has ever been busted for DWI at least half the anchor chairs in the country would suddenly go empty.

My heart goes out to Jane, and I hope she can find a new gig with a less hypocritical outfit.

I'm thinking not Channel 11. That would be bad synergy with her BAC number. :-X

She was already half way out the door at 5 anyway having been demoted to just the 5pm show and the 6:30 program on the invisible 5.2 channel.

Was it her age? Who knows. That's an easy accusation to make. But I could argue that she just wasn't that good.
It's not like Jane and Mike were a long running #1 anchor team in the market. They had their moments at the top, but it was usually dictated by events (Olympics, Michael Irvin, etc) or lead in (ER) and not because people just couldn't do without Jane and Mike.

I've never thought she was bad, I just never thought she was something special as an anchor.

I am sorry her career ended this way, but it really was of her own doing.

Realistically, Jane was out the door after her next contract. She just exited a bit earlier than she had expected. I'm not sure that anyone will hire her.

Is Clarice Tinsley next? She must be making a ton of money over on Fox 4.
