Janet and Nick should be on STAR

Why is Kiss hanging on to this morning show when they clearly do not target to the chr audience. I really think Kiss needs to refocus their station and get back to how the station sounded 10yrs ago or so. They need a fresh hot morning show that speaks to the chr audience and need to get all the HOT AC stuff out of their library and start acting like a real CHR. Let Janet and Nick go to mornings on STAR and shift Rob Lucas to pm drive. It just amazes me how a legendary CHR like Kiss has been focused on the STAR audience for how many years now?? Come on.. get with the program people

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Maybe there's a lot of soccer moms happy with things the way they are.

2 things, fwiw:

1) Many Northeastern markets are older markets...

2) CHR has become a 25-54 format.

If it's targeted 25-54, is it really CHR? Stars biggest competition comes from its own building.

Janet & Nick are about as relatable to 12-30 year olds as their parents are. Unfortunately, Kiss hasn't developed another personality who could step into mornings successfully. Rumor has it that the last PD who tried to get Janet to move to Star almost lost his job over it.

Nowadays SirRox, it seems that way.

The format may aim 18-34 but a successful Hit Music station will also excel 25-54.

This is a new day for CHR and it's going to be interesting to see how and where it goes.

Top 40 and AC have been close together twice before...in 1980-81 and 1990-91, as CHR moved in a more AC direction. This time, it's the AC formats becoming more CHR-like. Which means to me that the previous iterations of AC have become this era's defacto elevator music.

We've all heard about younger generations not embracing radio the way we did - and apparent research to the contrary.

Still don't know what to think. Maybe what's happening is that the younger users of radio have a wide range of tastes. They'll turn on 'YRK for their Toby/Taylor/Kenny fix, then go over to Kiss when in the mood for Katy/LMFAO/Hot Chelle Rae. They'll go to the web if they want metal or one of the other subgenres of rock currently flourishing in the underground, etc.

I assume at some point something has to happen in the CHR music stream that takes it in a younger direction and separates it from AC. Then again it's the AC formats that moved toward CHR.

Who honestly likes Janet & Nick in the morning? I never heard of anyone truly saying they enjoy Janet & Nick except for soccer moms.

While I am definitely on the upper end of the demo (25-54 that is), I can honestly say I think Janet and Nick do an excellent job. Nick is smart and funny, while Janet is very smooth. Listen to morning shows around the country. Janet and Nick are as good as many of them, often even better.

Would "Star" be a better fit? Absolutely. But Janet does not come off as someone in the upper upper end of the station's demo, and that's what really matters.

Bingo. Dale Dorman in Boston only gave up Top 40 a few years ago. And John Garabedian of "Open House Party" fame has to be in his 60's, if not over 70. He was programming WMEX/Boston in 1971.

All a state of mind...

Okay, it isn't 12-30, Rox, but they're hitting a pretty damn good demo if they're reaching the SM market. Hey! That's Soccer Moms!

Soccer moms listen in the car while driving the kids to school to appear cool, but as soon as Johnny and Suzie jump out of the SUV it's over to 96.1 or 106.5 for most WNY mothers over the age of 35.

janet/nick going to star ???
MAYBE
star came to them, while WTSS wont be a part
of this discussion, one may wonder if WKSE has morphed into
AC ?
-
I listened to an aircheck (1991) from WKSE and they always
embraced:
-the trend(quick hit/novelity act), some rock, the occassional dance song and
the lighter side of music.. this continued thru the 90s,
(when light artists had mainstream hits), bad english (1991)
elton john (1994)*lion king material only; the pretenders,
(etc etc)
-
when i vacation (elsewhere) "true" CHR's rarely touch the
light music :: AND IF THEY DO ::: its some thing emimen "lighters"
and def. not celion dion.

the CHR station should sound like the power hour at a nightclub
(24/7)... I (personally) prefer when the nightclub get adventourous w/the remixes
or "nu" music but as a rule they don't - same w/ the CHR stations...

now there is kiss ...

daypart sounds like star (or chum)
-while the night sounds "hot"
and plays more of true "CHR" playlists,

well, the "new" z101, doesn't seem to care.

True enough. New owner as of recent days. As long as it's not a threat to the new ED FM that seems to be their only concern. (even though ED FM is also invisible in Buffalo...)
