Janet on Star?

So when do you all think Janet and the team will gravitate to Star? I think its about time. I really do not think she fits the Kiss audience anymore and her mom shtick would be ideal for Star. I think its time for a change at Kiss in am drive and possibly in 2008 entercom will see the light and try something new and edgy on Kiss.

You're so right - KSE cumes #1 and TSS ranks #1 with women - they really need to shake things up over there. The AC audience just LOVES change.

This is a favorite hot topic of these boards. Ms. Snyder is a very talented and well-paid radio personality. TV? Not so much. She's certainly photogenic, if not a bit effusive and irritating. In this regard, she's not much different from what's already on daytime TV, so I guess it's a good fit.

Back to radio: Ms. Snyder does it well. She's well-known. She gets good ratings on Kiss. Could her ratings be better on Star? Would she be a better demographic fit at Star? Given her age and her daily topics, quite likely. But Star is doing quite well with its present morning host. Why change?

There's another point to consider. Ms. Snyder isn't the easiest person with whom to deal. A radio diva, she commands considerable attention from the department heads who are charged with "directing" her. Moreover, her morning drive show contributes a considerable sum to Entercom's bottom line. I believe this round belongs to Ms. Snyder. She'll not be coerced. If she moves to Star it will be when she's good and ready, not a day before.

On the one hand, you gotta love hearing about a personality having such control, albeit perhaps limited.

But on the other hand, especially recognizing her diva-like tendancies, hearing about such control is......annoying.

She is certainly better looking than Rob Lucas, not that that means anything on the radio, but....

I vote for Janet on Star, if for no other reason than Janet on Kiss sounds so ridiculous at this point. I believe her oldest child is probably more suited demographically to doing a morning show on that station than she is.

Good as Janet is, she's aged-out of the Kiss demo and has become a carricature. A person like Val Townsend would be a better fit for mornings at Kiss. She seems disconnected doing afternoon drive at Mix. Good points pro and con regarding Janet moving to Star, but from this perspective, it's not going to happen anytime soon. There'd have to be a ratings collapse in morning drive at one or both of those stations. That's not likely to happen.

Schizonphrenia

On Kiss, Janet & Nick are supposedly "hip and young". On Channel 2, Janet is "The Ultimate Mom". I don't see how anyone under the age of 35 who watches her on TV can relate to her morning show on Kiss.

I'd bet that it's the fact that there's no Kiss alternative in the market. Oh, wait, there's WILD. No, I was right the first time, there's no Kiss alternative in the market. So, you either listen to Janet driving the mommy van on Kiss, Rob "Mr. Innocuous" Lucas on Star, or Dopey and Agony on WEDG. If you're a young female, what choice do you have?

Well, there's always your MP3s on the road, and TV at home. No wonder TV's morning ratings are rising.

PS - Val Townsend sounds disconnected on Mix? I guess you're saying that Val doesn't have the skills to succeed in the format. Either that, or she's not working very hard at it. Either way, you're saying that she's not getting the job done. What on earth makes you think that she'd be better on a fast-paced morning show on Kiss?

My hope....

Is that she doesnt go too long, ala Donny Walker, or be less than kindly asked to leave, ala Pete Kennedy at PXY in the Roch.

It's a stretch, but would a syndicated morning show work at Entercomm? (Citadel has Opie/Anthony, Regents has Tom Joyner)

The diva thing is definatley not a stretch; heard the same comments from other Entercommer's. But yes, she's worked hard and is a very talented radio professional.

Jimmy T does an admirable job filling in when J/N take their vacations. Had the pleasure of doing the traffic thing w/all parties.
Think any recently departed Rochester folk head west down the 90?

Maybe some of you youngin's don't remember the 60's or 70's when Top 40 morning drivers were what we would politely now called middle aged. Like Herb Oscar Anderson on WABC in the 60's. Some of you might remember Danny Neavereth on KB.

CHR stations like WKSE need adult numbers to sell, the under 24 demo is not exactly sellable to your mom and pop retailers, where the local ad dollar is made. Stations like Kiss need to attract as many people, adults included, as possible, and given the evidence it's working just fine. Look at Z100/NY, #1 12 plus and #1 25-54, CHR is again in a sweet spot of attracting kids and adults and the mother daughter coalition is the key to its success, where Ms Snyder's "mom act" perfectly fits the bill.

If indeed Kiss is the top cumer and Star is #1 with women, nothing is gonna change.
Sounds like Entercom has got a real money making combo between Kiss and Star.

(I still miss the glory days of the mid to late 80's when 98.5 and 102.5 went head to head)
