1922: Actress Betty White is born in Oak Park, Illinois.
1933: Puppeteer Shari Lewis is born (as Shari Phyllis Hurwitz) in New York City.
1939: Talk show host Maury Povich is born in Washington, D.C.
1949: Actor/comedian Andy Kaufman (Taxi) is born in New York City.
1955: Joe Bolton, a staff announcer and weatherman for WPIX-TV in New York, first hosts The Clubhouse Gang as “Officer Joe Bolton,” a policeman character. He would spend the next 15 years initially hosting Little Rascals shorts on the show and, later and more famously, Three Stooges shorts on a similar program. His support of the Stooges earned him a role in the 1965 film “The Outlaws is Coming,” as well as a couple of personal appearances on the TV show by Moe Howard.
1975: Baretta debuts on ABC.
1977: The New Mickey Mouse Club premieres in syndication.
1983: Frontline debuts on PBS.
