My observations on the latest Arbitron ratings: A lot of people quit listening to KOST after the Christmas music ended, a lot of people also quit listening to KTWV after the Christmas music ended, and KLOS's ratings continue to drop. Ummm....oh, wait a minute---KLOS went up! That's unusual!

I noticed that KCSN is not in the list. Do they not encode; or do they just not show up?

What is the new format compared to the Spanish AC format?

All English pop music. All Spanish/Spanglish announcing.

Leans to All Robbie Williams All The Time in mornings, with a 7 hour long morning show designed to work in a 24 hour recall survey environment (Can you say "INRA" boys and girls?). Show is from Mexico City, with frequent London time checks.

Afternoons and nights are more like AMP. All music apparently selected and programmed in Mexico.

They are encoded and show. Likely they are not subscribed, so the public report of 6+ numbers does not include them.

I heard "Remember the Time" Michael Jackson on the Wave the other day. "Remember the Time" when the Wave actually played 'Smooth Jazz?'

They have been playing much more instrumental tracks of late and it has definitely improved the quality of the station, but probably not the quality of the ratings.

Former KIQQ PD Lee Bayley Has Died

KTWV's format is getting close to the old KUTE "Quiet Storm" format.

It's very rare when I get a chance to post a ratings story before David Eduardo does! The top-rated morning show in the just-released Los Angeles Arbitron is KROQ's Kevin & Bean; they ranked first in 12+, 18-34 and 25-54. KFI's Bill Handel ranks second in 12+ and is followed by Ryan Seacrest on KIIS.

Now perhaps Mister Eduardo can answer this one: How many former Mark & Brian listeners have Kevin & Bean picked up in the past six months?

I liked the older 'Smooth Jazz' format of the Wave -- but that's just me. Now I just turn on Music Choice to hear all smooth jazz. Nice to put on in the bedroom and nod off to!
