January Numbers

I see the January 6+ numbers posted here at radio-info. Can anyone share more of the story for Philly radio?

Best showing for the 104.5 frequency in its history, why... simple answer, they play a wider variety and dig deeper than the stale 100 of YSP and the chatter of MMR. Kudos to Johnny and the gang....

Clear Channel has me covered in the Philly,Baltimore and DC markets....because modern rock lives....even without the belief and support of radio execs. No they aren't perfect stations. But they filled a gap left by Y100 and WHFS. People do still listen to analog FM.

I know Philly has 104.5 and Baltimore has the 104.5 clone 104.3, but does DC have a CC Alternative station, if so is it run by CC and is it the same as 104.5 and 104.3...or when you mentioned DC are you talking about 104.3 beaming into the DC market. Don't know if it gets into the market they kinda tend to beam Northeast instead of Southwest...I know when Channel 104.3 was Classic Rock that Really Rocks in the early 2000's they had their tower closer to Philly, did they ever move into the city of Baltimore with the other FM's.

Clear Channel's DC101 is mostly alternative with some AC/DC and Metallica thrown in. I believe they still classify as Active Rock but play Modern/Alternative much more than Classic. They paid homage to 99.1 WHFS when it was flipped whereas 98Rock in Baltimore danced on HFS's grave (prematurely by the way) and DC101 welcomed displaced listeners instead of alienating them. Currently WHFS is the calls on an AM station and the HD2/webstream of HFS2 is silent pending another dumb move by CBS such as ressurecting the signal so far south that it will only be recieved in the DC area.

The history of HFS as a source for rock music is in the D.C. area. It spent 1983-2005 on 99.1 Annapolis, but before that it was on 102.3. It was to Washington DC during the late 60s and the 70s what WNEW-FM was to New York during that time.

If CBS resurrects the HFS calls, they'd likely put them on 94.7. IIRC, that reaches much of the Baltimore market. Not as much as 99.1 did, of course.

As for the rest of the numbers, WOGL is up after the flip back from Christmas music to the normal format. Hopefully that lesson is learned for next year.

WNUW, on the other hand, is down to a 2.8 from a 5.1 in the Holiday book and a 6.1 in the December book, with nearly a 250,000 drop in cume from last month. Anyone know what the ratings were in the October book? Did the Christmas flip gain them any listeners sticking around after it was over?

WYSP and WMMR have nearly the same cume, but WMMR's has a 4.4 share while WYSP has a 2.3. A large part of the cume for each is probably the same people flipping back and forth. They're spending much more time with MMR.

Is it too early to evaluate the format tweak at WRNB? Slightly down from last month.

Best showing in its history? Not really.
WRFF's 4.3 among Persons 6+ is their best showing in over a year, but the station topped that share July-November 2007, when it went 4.4 - 5.3 - 4.9 - 4.7 - 4.4. December '07 fell to a 3.9 and January '09 is the first month since then the station has topped a 4 share.
