Are we reading the same ratings? Unless I'm reading something wrong, in the last 2 months they're up from a 0.9 to a 1.4 and have increased their cume by 100k. At the same time Kiss has lost 70K in cume.
I really wonder about the mental ability of some of you people. Or someone needs to explain to me how that station is "tanking" (or not taking off) by increasing their ratings by 50% and cume by 100K people...
Nobody should be surprised by the number 2 of the big BAP! In an election year....that might have a bit of mud on it, both locally and nationally.....and with the weather we were having in January.....which they had covered with Brad Barton (good move KRLD)....I am not at all stunned by the good ratings. Tyler must be rolling in clover over there and patting everyone on the back!!!
I find it funny when listening to The Ticket they run a spot for i93 saying they have blown up the rock station down the hall so if you want to hear all of today's hit music tune in to the all new i93. Mwanwhile Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus is playing and I wonder how many P1's are going to flip over to the tween station? ;D
No, it's not dead. However, if only 2 of the top 20 in ratings and billing are AM, it ain't thriving. 40% of the D/FW AM dial are stations whose owners who just lease out the time. That's not even factoring stations like KRLD who lease out much of the weekend.
AM still remains a non-option to the vast majority of people under 40. Even an AM doing well 25-54 today has a math problem...each year more of those people age out and very few younger people are taking their place. Even KTCK, with awesome 25-54 numbers today...when someone posted the year-end 18-34 numbers, KTCK was not in the top 20 and only at parity with KESN and KRLD-FM.
With many AM radio owners having given up on the band for the most part and just leasing airtime for cheap infomercials or cheap programming, it will continue to repel new listeners for years to come.
