January PPM

One of the biggest trends in the ratings is the rise of 104.3 NOW-FM. Since October they have moved up 3.1-3.3-3.7-4.0-4.8. This is their highest ratings ever.

Other stations at their highest level in at least 6 months (6+) are MIX, OASIS, and KOMP.

Hopefully radiopunk99 will have 25-54 and 18-34 ranking as well as some highlights of the month.

Has NOW-FM hired a staff yet?

I noticed KQLL's oldies format debuted with a 0.3, not much different than they were doing with talk.

I thought you'd never ask! Here are the Jan PPM P25-54 and P18-34 rankers.

P25-54
1. KMXB
2. KKLZ
3t. KWID
3t. KLUC
5t. KSNE
5t. KOMP
7. KISF
8. KOAS
9. KXPT
10. KFRH

P18-34
1. KWID
2. KFRH
3. KSNE
4. KMXB
5. KLUC
6. KVEG
7t. KISF
7t. KVGS
9. KRGT
10. KQRT

Notes from me:

-How is it that Sunny looked better in the 18-34 demo than 25-54??? Crazy. The kinda fell off the face of the earth 25-54 as soon as Christmas music came off.

-KMXB and KKLZ were so close 25-54. KMXB won by a tenth of a share, full week. However, KKLZ won prime rotator (6-7p).

-KFRH had their best book ever (#1 English P18-34);

-Other stations who had a good book: KOMP, Oasis, and KWWN (Superbowl/playoffs).

-Not a good book for Party, KXTE, and both Country outlets.

NOW has two airstaff members, afternoons and nights.

Being #1 English 18-34 is very impressive for KFRH. But at least KLUC has strong 25-54 numbers. Like KSNE ranking higher 18-34 than 25-54 it's surprising to see KLUC rank higher 25-54 than 18-34. I realize there is a lot of compression in the ranking as well and some stations are sepearted by tenths of shares.

The music on KLUC is just as young sounding to me as NOW FM. So my guess is that KLUC has an older audience composition because of their long heritage and having relatively older (for the format) air personalities in AM and PM drive. Lot's of heritage CHRs across the country are now doing very well 25-54.

About KXNT's loss of listeners, I listened to the AM 840 side, as I still like to switch between talkers on AM. All this week, the AM side had an annoying clicking noise in the background. I switched over to the FM and there was no noise!!! I'm wondering #1, is management trying to get people used to listening to the syndicated shows and Alan Stock on the FM side, orrrrrr is it #2, the station has cut back on staff and there is nobody watching the quality control, for the output for the station? If they want me to listen on FM, then, I will switch between the oldies stations KOOL 102.3, KJUL 104.7, KVBQ 106.9 (which has an improved signal), KKLZ 96.3 and Classic Rocker 97.1 the Point.

KVBQ 106.9 seems to have a better signal across the city; but the processing is still awful. KVEG sounds great...so why does KVBQ sound so bad?
