January PPMs... Where did YSP's cume go?

January PPM Cume and Share are out... and YSP's cume plummeted... down over 200,000. The only station with a bigger drop was B101, but that was them settling into their non-Christmas numbers.

Where did their listeners go? Did they get tired of the "return of rock?"

Otherwise, a pretty steady looking book across the board.
 
Football season is over. It's as simple as that.

Cume was sky high in the fall (they were beating WMMR in cume at times) yet their AQH share for the entire week remained pathetic. That's because a good chunk of their audience tuned in just for the Eagles.
 
The AQH seems to be the number to look at. There YSP is rather constant. So the Eagles arguement seems valid.
 
Where did they go? Sirius and XM. You can't disappear for 2 years leaving an active rock audience with absolutely nothing on terrestrial radio and expect them to faithfully return to you.

YSP targets a younger demo and between Sirius and XM there are over 50 commercial free rock channels from which to choose. Do the math. It's a simple equation.

Maybe, but they didn't all flee to satellite in just one book. The people who left for the birds left when Howard jumped, and the months afterward.

We're talking about a one-book drop here, and I tend to agree, it was the Eagles.

Absolutely. That was my point. When the ratings skyrocketed last book everyone said, "They're Back! They'll put the nail in MMR's coffin for sure this time!" Blah Blah Blah.

I already stated that the active rock listeners "going to the bird" explains the one book drop immediately following football season.
 
So it's agreed that the reason for YSP's big cume drop is due to the Eagles' offseason, and not the fact that Jennifer Reed apparently isn't worth a damn?
 
Now, that was uncalled for! She is a great "that was...this is" card reader! Plus, she uses a "sexy" voice when saying the call letters. And, it is an audio medium, so since we can't see her when she is doing her show, her being female is a big plus. Wake up!
 
Maybe the reason for the decline is simple

Last Letter game is.......lame and stupid and Spike sucks!

Stripped at 4?...Do I really want to hear bad live versions of STP songs?

The DJ's are unknowns that do not relate to this community.

The music selection is sounding a bit to repetitive! Enough GnR!!!!!!!!!!

In the cume numbers I saw....persons 18-34 (a demo that most reflects the format) their cume jumped from 55k+ 6 til 10....to almost

100k 10a to 3p...in men 18+....86k+...mornings to 160k cume middays.....

Spikes Midday show doesn't seem to be hurting the station numbers wise ;)

After all is said and done, ysp's cume, shares and tsl numbers can be interpreted many ways. I don't think the P&S show would appeal to

says mosh pit enthusiasts, anymore than the Kidd show appeals to a 30+ years old soccer mom.

P&S is more mass appeal, wider target audience, larger numbers. In time Kidd will be in deeper, more mass appeal.....
