Any thoughts on this trend? KLUC had one of their best months in recent history. Impressive month for KKLZ.

FRESH isn't making much of a dent on SUNNY and hasn't taken any share away from MIX.

Another poor rock month. KOMP was below their normal range. KXTE targets men 18-34, but they used to make a decent showing 25-54, this month they weren't in the top 20. LV is now clearly more of a rhythmic than rock market.

This is the first month I remember KENO being the top AM. News/Talk had a poor month. I believe this was the lowest month for KDWN since Beasley's owned them.

I think lost is all this discussion is how poorly 93.1 The Party has done since it signed on. I believe KOOL had better 25-54 numbers, which is sad because that wasn't their demo. What is the major malfunction with 93.1? Is it CC ineptitude? Is it the PD? (He doesn't have the best track record) Or, is it the GM?

I would say it's the format itself. Rhythmic AC was the trendy "format of the month" at the time KQOL flipped to PARTY. Several stations across the country went Rhythmic AC in 2006, it was supposed to be the next big thing. With KQMV/Seattle being the only exception, It soon became apparent that the format was performing far below expectations. The most high profile example is MOVIN'/Los Angeles. With Rick Dees in the morning and tons of TV advertising KMVN hasn't been able to crack a 1 share. That has to be considered one of the biggest failures in the history of radio.

That being said KPLV actually has higher ratings than the typical Rhythmic AC. This is surprising considering how under staffed the station is. They only have two local personalites which has to be the smallest airstaff in town. I thought that PARTY was one of the bigger surprises in the most recent trend, if you look at the fully staffed, higher profile stations they beat in January.

Here is something that might shock some people...Whoppi does pretty good in Vegas. I have often heard people say Whoppi has one of the worst radio shows they have ever heard. She certainly has been cancelled in several other markets, including her flagship station in New York. Yet for some reason she does OK in Vegas, in fact in January she did downright good, beating several of the local morning shows in town.

KPLV recently added a slow jams show at night. This could boost their night numbers, these types of shows usually do quite well. It could steal some audience from HOT or KLUC which both have massive night numbers. Or it could even take a slice out of #1 25-54 rated Delilah across the hall on SUNNY. I say that because Delilah had been playing a lot of uptempo music recently "Roll with it" by Steve Winwood for example, while the slow jams show on KPLV has a very slow and romantic texture to it.

Great points. I just wonder how long they hold on to the Party here in town. I'm sure their expectations were/are much higher for this station. I can't believe that its billing all that much and CC isn't known for its patience.

Another station that should be doing better is KDWN. I know that people KILL this topic, but as a typical newstalk, they sound pretty good. I'm surprized to see them lag so far behind.

Is KDWN doing anything other than Savage? Has their morning newsblock improved? That 24/7 newsstaff plus all the traffic people has to be expensive.

They are below a 1 share 25-54 mornings and middays. Afternoons and evenings are a little better but they will be dropping off a good November next trend.

I was going to answer KDWN on the most underacieving stations thread. IMO they sound 50X better than the final years under the old ownership (although I miss Jim Dallas and Tru Hawkins when he wasn't doing an infomercial). Yet their numbers are basically the same. Their January extrap was even more grim than the typical month under the old regime. This is surprising to me, maybe it will take a little more time.

Of course I predicted all of this...wouldn't Lou Dobbs or O'really do better on Kdawn? or Ed Schultz...they don't care about ratings over there, just ideology---they should play music or go back to the informercials..the informercials were more interesting...

and the other talk station seams to be going in the direction I predicted...look at how well KOH does in Reno with Ross Mitchell and Bill Manders, or KMJ in Fresno, etc.

Could 93.1 become an Urban AC and fill a void in the market? Is there such a void, first of all? I would say yes, since 107.9 became Area 108/107.9, but what do I know???

93.1 recently added a slow jams show at night and it IS Urban AC! It sounds good. I think there is a void for a fulltime Urban AC. The old V-108 was able to pull some numbers despite being on that weak signal. However I have heard that Urban AC wouldn't be an easy format to sell.
