January Ratings

Q has won ONE of the past three books over Power and you seem to think Q is blowing them out. Oh, and KBXX is a Rhythmic Top 40, just like Wild. It chooses to go more Urban than Wild because it's winning. Heck, it's even #2 in the money demo, which is more than we can say for KRBE, which is not top five in ANY demo. Maybe KRBE should wake up and realize it's 2013, not 2007.

KBXX is nothing like Wild. The Boxx is an Urban Comtemp reporting as a CHR/Rhythmic. The Boxx parallels V103 more so than Wild.

Also, KRBE in January is top 5 in 18-34/44/49 women, which is their target. As well as 25-44 women, which is a money demo.

Bad analogy. KBXX is far from paralleling V-103. KBXX is a mainstream urban (which is different than from urban contemporary, what V-103 is) billed as a rhythmic that parallels its sister station Hot 107.9 programming wise here.

And KRBE is getting pounded by Rhyhmic KBXX, yet they still play "Say it Right" and "Apologize" like it's 2007.

This is the original post that began this discussion

The statement "KRBE is getting POUNDED BY RHYTHMIC KBXX" is equivalent to saying "KKHH is getting POUNDED BY 94.5 THE BUZZ", or "WWPW/Atlanta is getting POUNDED BY WVEE"

If two stations have no musical overlap, they are not in direct competition, and the ratings of one have little to no affect on the ratings of the other

I don't truly have a positive opinion of Houston radio, considering its demographic composition and what is presently offered on the terrestrial dial, but KBXX does have some influence over its CHR competition. KBXX is a heritage "churban" (originally owned by CC), but under Radio (No)One has morphed into this urban-leaning repetitive mess it is today. Now how direct it affects them is up for debate with people from Houston, but from what I know it does affect the English-speaking Hispanic audience shares of others.

I don't think KBXX is Urban-leaning, though - I think it's straight Urban, billed as a Rhythmic. If they played even a handful of songs charting on CHR, I'd say they might have some influence over KRBE and KKHH, but they only play 2 songs in the entire CHR Top 50 (Justin Timberlake and Mackelmore), meaning they directly target a specific ethnic audience.

The Chrocket87 post claimed that if KRBE was more current, somehow the KBXX audience would completely give up their Urban/Hip-Hop musical taste and listen to CHR/Pop currents, almost none of which were being played on KBXX - the equivalent of that would be to claim that if Q100 were more current, all these listeners to V103 would swap musical taste and listen to CHR Currents on Q100

KBXX's audience is 18-34 blacks and Anglophone Hispanics.
