Surprisingly, WNIC stayed on top holding onto a good chunk of its Christmas audience. WOMC saw a big jump as the listeners who decamped for Christmas music returned. The biggest surprise in this book is WWJ being WAY outside the Top 10. It saw a gain, but usually tops or is near the Top this time of year. Certainly a lack of severe weather impacted this, but January saw a lot of big news happening from impeachment to nominating primary preparation. WKQI, WCSX and WMXD rounded out the Top 5. WRIF was flat at #6. The Ticket saw a nice gain for #7. Have to believe this was Christmas music listeners returning as well. The Breeze, which had a mixed Holiday season held onto at least some of that audience for #8, far better ratings than AMP ever saw. 105.1 was at #9 and WYCD at #10. WYCD will be one to watch as NASH changes its format and adds a local radio show.
WLLZ is at #15 with a 3.0. Far better than the AMP or other formats tried there in recent years. WJR saw an increase to a 2.4, it's best of the last three periods and is tied with NASH. WDMK, in its first reporting period under Beasley, lost some audience and is behind WJLB. WMXD is clearly winning this battle.
Takeaways: WWJ doing so poorly has to be a cause for concern for Entercom. iHeart has to be happy with 3 of the Top 5 spots and sustaining such improvement at 106.7 (WLLZ). The Entercom stations acquired from CBS have slipped badly since the takeover. This is more likely due to market transitions than due to the change it ownership, but it has to be a cause for concern.
