Jason Lewis Leaving WBT

Jason Lewis is headed back to Minneapolis! Thanks goodness! Now, if we could just get the other "whiner" who appears daily from nine 'til noon to "turn it down" we'd be all set.Listening to these guys carp and complain day after day has gotten more than a little tiresome!

>>>>Listening to these guys carp and complain day after day has gotten more than a little tiresome! That's what the two knobs on your radio are for. One to "turn it down," and with regard to WBT, I choose to "turn it off."

Judging by the last several ratings books I've seen, I'd say your point of view falls outside the majority of WBT listeners. As the other poster pointed out, your radio has both an on-off switch, and a means to change to a different station.

Gary, it wouldn't be the first time! Thanks for the friendly advice. You'd think after spending over 30 years in the business I would have remembered that. Isn't it the standard line that we used to feed listeners when they called to complain!I turned off Lewis months ago and with Larson, I'm on the verge. Frankly, I enjoy his lighter, more entertaining moments more than his anti-uptown crowd, anti-government rants. But that's just me!I've lived in the area for ten years now. While Charlotte does have some issues (what city doesn't?), I find it has a great deal to offer as far as a place to live. Personally, I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Apparently, Larson and the majority of WBT's listeners feel otherwise.Just one man's opinion! By the way, how do you feel?

How do I feel? Great! It's a holiday weekend after all...How do I feel about Charlotte? I worked as a radio chief there for 20+ years, loved the people I worked with and the folks I worked for (I still work for them today). I lived in Charlotte for roughly 6 years (long pause inserted here for effect), and I'm REALLY thankful to be fortunate enough to now live elsewhere. I will, in all fairness, quickly admit that I'm biased- toward fresh air, quiet evening cookouts with neighbors (most of whom actually speak english!), two lane roads, and- maybe I have the wrong perspective- but I really prefer acres of woods over acres of pavement any day. My kids don't have to have armed guards at school and wear body armor any more, and I actually believe they'll be able to read AND write when they graduate! Shoot, I probably shouldn't tell this, but the neighborhood kids actually ride their bikes in the street every evening. And try as I might, I just can't see gang graffitti as an art form. But hey, if we all liked the same things, it would be a really dull world, huh?

Hey Gary.....How are you doing? Haven't talked to you in 16 years. Still doing any hamming? Remember the "Voyager Group" Easley, SC FM?? Late 80s???? --:))

Hey Stoker...give me a hint. I sure do remember (and kinda miss) Voyager. I was really fortunate to work for some top shelf operators in my day.

Heard Jason and John talk about Jeff Katz filling in tomorrow. That's cool. I liked hearing him on WBT a few weeks ago. Maybe they will have him take over when Jason leaves.

They could give Hancock more time. He is the most entertaining talk radio host I have ever heard. ?Not to mention all the good stuff he does for the community.

Sorry to rehash such an old post, but now Jason Lewis is syndicated. Is there a chance he could return to BT? The downside is that he is in Hancock's timeslot.

I wouldnt look for greater media to use any more premiere programming than they do now.
At the same time, he was the most popular recent host at BT and their current afternoon show is a bit rough to follow rush. (anyone other than a well seasoned vet would sound rough after rush).

Hancock 3-5?
Jason 5-8?

I was speculating the same thing, but Hancock's audience and Rush's audience aren't the same. I personally would like to see Hancock in the 3-6 slot.

I agree myself, I would love to see Hancock back in his old home from 3 - 6 like he was before his timeout enforced by 'ol "R. Foolquist".

About 4 months out of the year the only way I can listen to him is via podcast or online, because I am out of the blowtorch pattern and the LPFM at LR now overrides the signal on 99.3 around here.

While I find myself agreeing with Tara often, I can only take so much of her, she is an aquired taste, and I have not aquired a lot of it yet. Way too much repetition for me.

Hancock and Larson on the other hand I can listen to all day long.

Let me toss this in the ring- what about "swapping" Tara and Pete Calener? I think he's pretty darn good. I agree with JTudor- Tara's an acquired taste, and I'm not there yet.

I will second that motion. I can listen to a lot more of pete Kaliner than I can Tara, but Hancock is still my preference of all.

Not to invoke Rush Limbaugh But DITTO! ;D

Hey... I float around, read these boards and others. [Mostly markets I've worked in.] I don't participate a lot, figuring I already get plenty of time for my opinion. I like reading y'all when you're talking about surrounding, but still local, markets. I have a passion for small to medium market stations. When the time comes, the thought of returning to a smaller market [mountains]as an owner operator and/or operations director someday is my ultimate goal.

That said, I just wanted to say "Thank You" for the encouraging remarks about me here. I have learned to roll with the criticism, but I am ALWAYS appreciative of the positive. Charlotte has been more than anyone in radio could ever expect or demand. I am very lucky, and the chance to do it with a 50,000 watt, three letter call blowtorch with history is the ultimate dream for a radio junkie like me. Approval like I read here makes it all the more rewarding. I just wanted to tell you ,thanks!
