Jax: BREAKING....Planet Radio returns!

Albeit on 106.9 (translator). Commercial free all Summer. No idea on personalities. Active Rock returns!

I'm glad that Clear Channel is trying to fill a format hole for Active Rock in Jacksonville, but the format on the 106.9 translator is not going to make much of an impact because the signal doesn't cover certain parts of the city like the far Westside and Orange Park. In fact, the signal is so weak on this side of town that the Class C1 106.9 (WPLL Cross City/Gainesville, FL) completely obliterates the signal when troposphere conditions are favorable. In order to make an impact, Clear Channel needs to upgrade the signal from 99 watts to 250 watts@ 245 meters HAAT or higher. Basically, they need a translator that covers ALL of Duval County and surrounding areas with a decent signal in order like W291CI/ WJGL-HD2 ("Power 106.1") in order to be competitive in the North Florida market.

BTW, what HD subchannel is this analog translator repeating?

WNWW 97.9 HD-2 is the feed that is carrying 106.9 Planet Radio.

The old Planet leaned way more new rock/alternative than this. No old Hendrix & stuff, but IF this is supposed to fill the hole left from WFVY, it should work. If they can get it on a more powerful signal.

Yeah, it's basically the last incarnation of Rock 104-5, but a little harder, and a little less classic. I'm guessing CC's corporate Rock format, minus the voicetrackers plugging the app and the latest weird news bit "on our station's website." (And if not, it seems to be well thought out and targeted.) Whatever it is, it'll do all right. I told my friends (Southsiders, that is) they'll enjoy it as long as they don't expect the "old" Planet back. That ship has sailed.

And speaking of returns, I'm also amused by the handful of posts on Planet's Facebook wondering if Lex and Terry are ever returning to Jacksonville. Wow!

You know, CC has WWJK's calls associated with two other translators (specifically 92.7 and 95.7) which if put together with 106.9, would cover all of Jacksonville proper with at least one B-grade signal in any particular area. I'd be surprised if that isn't in the medium range plan.

Can you post the link it Ihearts British Invasion channel or the link you found the newer iheart links on. The one I have is a few years old. Thanks
