No doubt, changes are coming. What they will be remains the big question. Despite some noise about Rock 105 becomming something else - I don't see that happening and why should it. My hunch is Cox Radio will do whatever it can to protect the Rock 105 brand. Even if the station dropped to # 2 in billing, I don't think abandoning that makes any sense at all. My guess: Look for Cox Radio to continue to "soften" Eagle and for them to flip the Point to either AC or Hot AC AFTER CC makes its' move with placing L&T. I'm not sure why but I always felt the Point would wind up following in WFLC's (Miami) footsteps.
I don't think CC will put L&T on an FM talker. There are a lot bigger markets that don't have FM talk and I can't see that here. It's risky and could the #49 market support the format big time? For those out there in radio land correct me if I'm wrong but aren't WQIK and WROO the best signals? By contract L&T must be on a full-power signal. It's doubtful CC would mess with WQIK replacing Robbie Rose and the morning show. And so, let's assume L&T are destined for WROO. Would Rooster remain country? If it did and with a powerful morning lead-in, WQIK would suffer. That doesn't make sense.
In thinking of logical formats for a L&T station, I keep coming back to some form of rock. I've read a number of times that billing for country stations is not the greatest. Billing would be improved with both L&T and a rock format. I would also think that WQIK would benefit. Renda's WGNE would benefit too but I think to a lesser degree.
Finally, there is WKQL. Maybe it's the Christmas music paranoia but unless I'm wrong, I haven't been hearing any references to their 60s/70s format in their sweepers. Does this mean they will be something else after Christmas? Some of you, apparently in the know, think they will return as an oldies station. I'm not so sure. I hope I'm dead wrong as I think an oldies format still has some life left in it if programmed right.
I'm interested in what y'all think will happen. And if anyone has the real scoop, at least give us a few hints. LOL
