JAY KELLY OUT AT KJR-FM

Like I said in the other KJR thread - it's no big surprise. He's been pretty much a caretaker for the corporate format for the last couple of years - an incredible waste of his talents.

Bet your $$$ on Fisher hiring him for KVI and making Travis Box APD.

That's a sucker bet. Fisher isn't spending any $ on KVI.

For now. Aside from Ric Hansen's upcoming evening show. Even voicetracked, I'm pretty sure he's not doing it for free....

Merrry Christmas from Clear Cut. Jay is a class act and a excellent
PD. This has to be a format change and cost cutting move.
I've never heard of such a cold hearted firing so close to Christmas.

We should all rise up and walk out in solidarity with Jay! this makes me ill.

(pipe dream but it would be cool!)

Cost cutting, yes. Format change, yet to be determined. However, a KJR-FM swing to mainstream oldies is logical. Will be interesting to see what they come out of the gate with after Xmas.

Maybe they'll just try to carbon-copy the success they've had with "oldies" 106.7 in Portland.

Maybe one of the business types here could help me with this one...I though KJR-FM has been a real success story for CC, good billing rates and very little overhead. I s this incorrect? What gives here?

Far as the Holiday spirit- hey, it's radio...they fired my whole staff at the holiday party- took us 50 miles out of toen and then asked for our keys. You had better believe there was lots of spending on the corporate tab THAT night! Whoo hoo!

wow, seems like a neat industry to be involved in.... any jobs available? thank God my politically un/incorrect, opinionated bastard ways squeezed me out of this radio ass kiss garden party in the 90's. "if memories were all i sang, i'd rather drive a truck. but hey,its allright now, i learned my lesson well......." but, enough of the BS shuck and jive schtick.
i really feel for the good guys who've been caught up in the corporate machinery, and played the corporate game, only to be chewed up and spit out. have a nice HR politically correct holiday/giving tree party, you corporate insiders, on the inside looking out...guess what? you may be next!

Sorry to interrupt the typical mob-scene, wild speculation, kneejerk, pitchfork and torch, assumption club; but it appears that none of you posting about this topic know what the circumstances are or were. Do you? Or for that matter whether this individual was actually canned. According to even this website, this situation is only a rumor.

Talk about throwing fresh meat to the anti-corporate radio crowd..

I believe the point of my post was pretty obvious, but if you need it spelled out in simpler terms BoyofBlue; without proper information, much conclusion-jumping seems to occur on this site by those who seem to have the least knowledge of the facts. Maybe that's just pointing out the obvious as well, so call it my lot in life.

Apologies to the panic-mongers for inserting a moment of sanity.

I know that he has been part of many a cold hearted firing close to many holidays. You don't get a break because its Christmas.

CC Seattle also let go their local CFO, the accounts payable/receivable person, and an engineer.

Clear Channel, Proudly putting the X back into Christmas!

Thanks for posting this, notalent. Maybe that will shut the "guru" up. :'(

CC's been cutting back office staff over the last month, so these riffs aren't much of a surprise either.

Guru was correct, Jay Kelly being beached is not in and of itself an indication of changes to come at KJR FM.

KJR FM under Jay Kelly has had the best numbers (since PPM started) of any format on 95.7 in decades.

They'd be idiots to change the format.

Whoa, wait a minute here. Jay's a great programmer but his skillz aren't ENTIRELY the reason for the great numbers.

Most of the gains are due to the format itself which is PPM-friendly. The rest is because Bonneville dumped KBSG just before PPM started.
