Jay Leno and NBC affiliates' 10 PM News

Since this is popping up on other boards in light of NBC's
decision to drop "The Jay Leno Show" at 9 PM (CT) and
return him to 10:35, I have to ask: how has his primetime
show impacted the 10 PM news ratings on NBC affiliates
in Texas, particularly KXAS, KPRC, and WOAI, but any of
the others as well?

In Austin, KXAN used to be a solid #2 at 10. Last book, they fell to a distant third behind KEYE. Best showing be KEYE in ages ... perhaps forever.

I bet LIN is thrilled.....the Leno move is now being talked about as the most boneheaded move in the history of television programming.

Letterman flashed Zucker's picture up on the screen about a dozen times last night, identifying him personally as the one responsible for the mess. ;D

Here are some numbers:

"The research firm Harmelin Media said local NBC stations saw their late news audience drop by an average of 25 percent in November compared with the previous year among 25- to 54-year-old viewers.

The decline was particularly steep in some of the largest markets: 48 percent in New York, 43 percent in Los Angeles and 47 percent in Philadelphia."

After all this mess, I'm surprised that there are no NBC stations that are on the verge of dropping "Tonight".

If I were an NBC affiliate GM, the first thing I would be asking is "Do I want Jay back at 11:35/10:35PM after all this?". I seriously doubt that there will ever be a way that Jay can ever regain his numbers from prior to last May....especially after this.

If I were an NBC affiliate GM whose late news was damaged by Jay's poor 10PM/9PM ratings, I would have made the decision to exercise the clause in my affiliate agreement that allows me to decline to air any network show and simply decline to air the new Leno Tonight Show. I would consider Jay damaged goods at this point and I would also refuse to air Jay out of support for Conan and the poor way that NBC has treated him by pushing him out in favor of Jay.
