Jay Leno Show

Settling their "contract issue" sounds like a MUCH better solution than standing in the unemployment line!

Not that Conan or Leno need the money, but if NBC's demise is linked to the decision of execs to make the late-night/Leno moves they've made in the past 12 months, the stars will be forever linked to a failure of a network (whether the assessment is fair or not).

Bob Prather, president of Gray Television, which operates ten NBC affiliates, isn't mincing words about the "Jay at Ten" experiment:

“The Leno experiment is not working so far... I’m sure they’ll stick with it longer than they need to … their ego won’t let them probably get rid of it soon enough.”

I just read the article, and I'm confused about one paragraph:

"Gray's NBC affiliates are in mid- and small-size markets, such as Omaha; Madison, Wis.; South Bend; and Huntington, West Va. Its 10 NBC stations provide about as much cash flow as its 17 CBS affiliates, which have been benefiting from that network's prime-time health."

Am I reading that wrong? What it seems to be saying is that as much revenue is generated from Gray's 10 sickly NBC affiliates as is generated by its 17 healthier CBS affiliates. ???

Iv'e noticed last night that Jay did Headlines after the monologue instead of doing it at the end of the show, I thinking all the other comedy bits like Jay-walking and so forth will go back like it did at The Tonight Show so veiwers won't lose interest right after the monologue.

If NBC sticks with Leno, it'll largely be because
it's cheaper to produce than five hour-long
drama series. I guess this is a fair analogy,
the fact that CBS replaced "Guiding Light" with
a game show rather than another soap.

Also, re Gray Communications: are any of those
NBC affiliates tops in their markets? They can
probably generate ad rates which, if offset by
a few weak CBS affiliates, could theoretically
equalize the cash flow between the CBS and
NBC affiliates. I would think at least two NBC
affiliates, WSAZ and WJHG Panama City, FL, are
capable of doing this.

Don't forget that, just because a network may
be on top nationally, that doesn't mean its affiliates
are all number one in their markets. ABC may be
number two nationally, but its Greensboro/Winston-
Salem/High Point affiliate, WXLV, is a pathetic fourth
in the market. And top-rated CBS has WGCL in Atlanta,
a station that rarely ranks higher than third in any given
timeslot.

Noticed that too, plus I don't recall him sitting at a desk before. Could be wrong on that...they are definitely tinkering. My guess is they are slowly bringing back more and more elements of "Tonight", and eventually the interviews will be at the desk as well.

Personally, I like the show. I'm not a big Broadcast Network TV watcher, but I actually have a reason to watch NBC at 10pm now.

You forgot to sign your post with the name Jay Leno

I like the show. It is a great filler between Rachel Maddow and the Daily Show. However I would rather watch Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmern when they have new shows. Maybe Jay should eat a live octopus.

Anyone catch the Wed. (11/18) show tonight?

A new segment, a parody (atleast I think a parody) of the cable "panel discussions" as the last segment. Seemed quite scripted, and while funny in places, also very risque. Some of the material would be even borderline for SNL, IMO. (I wonder how KSL in Salt Lake City can justify airing this and not SNL, but another thread).

It is obvious the Leno show is trying a lot of different concepts trying to save this program. The fact that this type of "shock" sketch made it to air tells me this show is on dangerous ground. I wouldn't be surprised to see cancellation in the near future.
