Jay Leno WILL BE on WHDH at 10:00 PM

That was easy to call. Either it was going to be on WHDH or a new NBC station. Ed Ansin eats crow even if he gets an extra :30 or two local spots out of NBC.

If you're going to make a sweeping statement like this at least know your subject.

A network affiliate just can't pre-empt national slots and run local ads in its place. National advertisers
pay big money to run their spots on the network. Ansin can't get more local slots from NBC
than other affiliates. Every affiliate has to play by the same rules.

The likely resolution is Ansin will get compensated by NBC if Leno can't deliver the numbers they're currently promissing to advertisers on the upfronts. Plus, if Leno's show tanks which is very likely, Ch.7's 11pm newscast will get hurt on the revenue side. That is why he started the big stink in the first place.

Before you post and make your sweeping statement, you should have read my posting history on this subject. I knew exactly what was going on.

As for Leno tanking, it's going to be great to see the egg on faces like yours. His show will perform great especially in the demos NBC and advertisers want. Plus it's 46 weeks of fresh programming a year. NBC doesn't need to be number one every night at 10 with the revenues they will be raking in with Leno.

I say have a HALF HOUR newscast at 10 with Jay which I think will bomb at 1030.
The issue is OVER. There isn't going to be any NBC station with a newscast on the east or west coast at that hour. Period. No need to dream of things that are never going to happen.

Ansin's 11 pm newscast is in trouble and he knows it, which is why he got himself into this mess in the first place.

Ch.7 was looking at a #3 rating even without Leno ending the traditional drama/entertainment, 10 pm lead-in. Will older views who are still watching the news watch Jay five nights a week? I don't think so.

WHDH is up against it even if Jay does better than expected in the short-term.

You're the one that made a moronic comment about that NBC would be forking over more ad time to Ch.7. That's pure nonsense.

Of course NBC is saving tons of money even if Leno comes 3rd which he will. That's what this is all about for them in the big picture.

Ansin wants them to be compete so his local latenkght news revenue doesn't suffer as a result which it already has and it will even more. He rocked the boat. NBC threatened and then caved in. They threw him a bone to keep him quiet for now. End of story.

[EDIT] show me a quote or a link where NBC has publicly stated that they're considering giving extra inventory to affiliates. So far NBC has made no public comment about what is basically a proposal by a handful of non O&O's to get extra inventroy. They haven't responded about anything in the press.

Cool it guys. This is no place to throw insults at each other. Let's see what carrots NBC will provide for the affiliates (if any). Ansin knew he was in a corner and basically relented on his decision. Since he owns the station outright, lock, stock and barrel, he knew that losing NBC would be a bad decision. He probably was a little gun shy, considering the situation that occured at sister-station WSVN in Miami some 15 or so years ago. This issue is done. Leno will be on Channel 7 and the news will be on Channel 56 at 10 PM.

So you don't even know what Mike Pilot said? I guess that shows how much you know about this situation. Now, go Google Mike Pilot so you know who he is.

Great to know you're up to date on your corporate TV sales weasels. However, I couldn't find a link or a quote from him on anyting that relates to giving affiliates more local breaks during Leno's show. If you could please post it here, I'd sincerely appreciate it.
